SriLankan Airlines
Airbus A330-243
Colombo - Bandaranaike (International) (CMB / VCBI)
Sri Lanka, August 3, 2001
Remark
Photographer
4R-ALE (cn 336) Remains of an A330 about one week after rebels stormed the airport and destroyed 4 airliners, including A330s 4R-ALE and 4R-ALF. Newspapers reported that 4R-ALE was parked at stand A13 and 4R-ALF at stand 17, and this aircraft is apparently at stand A13, so this is assumed to be 4R-ALE.

Off-Airport - Villabate
Italy, June 30, 1988
Remark
Photographer
I-DIKQ (cn 47227/334) 23 Dec 1978: At about 00:39 a.m. local time DC-9-32 I-DIKQ (named "Isola di Stromboli"), flight number AZA 4128, flying an extra-flight for the Christmas season from Rome Fiumicino to Palermo, crashed in the sea shortly before landing on runway 21 at Punta Raisi airport. I took this picture in an old car storehouse in Villabate (Palermo). Low quality picture depends on the fact that the original one is a 35mm colour slide.

N526FE (cn 48600/560) A terrible day in Tokyo taken just 30mins after the fatal crash of this once gorgeous Fedex MD11 at Tokyo's Narita airport. Fire is still under way out of frame to left. A terrible day and that burnt nosegear leg still sends a chill down my spine as a fellow pilot..dedicated to the crew and the firefighters at Narita airport for a superb job in the most difficult of situations. Fairford (FFD / EGVA)
UK - England, July 24, 1993
Remark
Photographer
925 black (cn 2960715564) The moment my heart stopped! A Russian MiG-29 925 has just smashed into the ground having collided with her sister 526 during their air display at the 1993 IAT. At this point I thought the pilot was still in the plane though he had already escaped without injury. If you look carefully to the right of the photo the MiG's tail fin can be seen bouncing away from the wreckage and other flying debris is visible. A moment I will never forget.

It overran the runway and veered to the right, 150 m short of the runway end. Thank God no fatalities were reported among the 70 passengers and crew. Since then, the wreckage is situated at the actual place of the accident, 150 m from the edge of the runway. The flag of the former Czechoslovakia is still visible on the fin!

G-OBME (cn 23867/1603) Jan 8th 2004 saw the 15th anniversary of this accident and it is therefore perhaps an appropriate time to upload this shot in memory of those who lost their lives and in tribute to the numerous people who were there helping on the night - emergency services, airport staff and members of the general public. This shot was taken two days later when teams had arrived to take the wreckage away to the AAIB at Farnborough.

N364FE (cn 46600/4) Two years ago this little mishap occurred at MEM. This is what the NTSB concluded - "1) the first officer's failure to properly apply crosswind landing techniques to align the airplane with the runway centerline and to properly arrest the airplane's descent rate (flare) before the airplane touched down; and 2) the captain's failure to adequately monitor the first officer's performance and command or initiate corrective action during the final approach and landing."

Two Catalinas deployed on SAR after the incident were also attacked by Mig-15s. The Soviets denied the shoot-down till 1991 and the wreckage was not found until 2003
