San Francisco - International (SFO / KSFO)
USA - California, August 15, 2004
Remark
Photographer
N509UA (cn 24763/284) With LH 744 D-ABVE. The two planes appear to be touching! The 757 is on final for 28L while the 747 is for 28R. The runways are 750 ft apart, so there is still plenty of room between them. Incidentally, Lufthansa 455 is seen here returning to SFO due to an oil leak and eventual shutdown of the number 2 engine. Note rudder is deflected to the right compensating for the failed engine on the left side.

Remark
Photographer
9V-SKK (cn 051) Had damn luck with the weather as we only had actually three evenings available in London for a possible LHR ride during typical so-so weather conditions. London was the first touch of our backpacking journey through the UK and was already a good deal (and I mainly did seightseeing - really ;)). The second A380 in the evening sequence makes its way down to 27L right overhead - yes - Hatton Cross.

Remark

N524VA (cn 3204) Qantas 747-400 (VH-OEI) is seen going around, climbing past us in the A319. We were performing a parallel ("side-by") approach to Runway 28 in San Francisco (SFO) when apparently the heavy couldn't stay behind us and had to go around. It was the most spectacular thing I have ever seen from inside an airplane!

Remark

F-HPJA (cn 033) Tight in on the A380 during a wet runway landing! Note the single reverse thruster. The A380 is equipped with only 2 reverse thrusters and not 4 like on the B747 and other heavies. I believe the reason is that it saves on weight, reduces possible FOD ingestion, and it simply doesn't need them with its powerful brakes.

Remark

N512MC (cn 21220/294) Ah, the moon! Atlas Air B747 has just arrived at the designated parking space, and seems to start enjoying the moon rise while refueling. Southern Air B.747 (N746SA) parks behind. Setting sun illuminates the peaks of mountains beautifully whereas the ground does not completely turn dark which is usually the case of snow. I wish you could smell the holy atmosphere that I felt at the moment. In a reality, I think it might be a good idea to take my way back now before the road will completely freeze again.

In Flight
Turkey, August 14, 2006
Remark
Photographer
A6-EBB (cn 32789/508) Economy class view of Emirates' new B777-300ER aircraft. The 3-4-3 seating layout does not feel cramped (don't argue via e-mail please!), even though the standard Boeing config is 3-3-3 or 3-4-2. Seats are very comfortable and the seat pitch is quite good. The Inflight entertainment system (ICE) is just amazing ... bring your own headphones though. Flight EK056 from Dusseldorf to Dubai with another 3h 20min to go.

USA - California, November 19, 2005
Remark

B-HOR (cn 24631/771) Double treat: I have seen many F16s, F15s do side by side landing but this was unusual. MX A320 descended on glideslope from 3500 AGL for Rwy 24R while CX 744 did same from 2200 AGL for Left side. Cathay 744 was told to hold 170 kts steady so MX can land just a bit ahead. And the result was perfect approach with spectacular results.

Remark
Photographer
VT-ESM (cn 27078/987) A Bad day for Air India! Timely information provided by vigilant passengers onboard "KONARK" bound for Riyadh today at 10.30am averted what would have been a sure disaster! Apparently, a fuel leak from the wings onto the engines provoked sparks and fire from engine1 (extreme right). Luckily, the fire was doused in the nick of time. All 213 passengers were evacuated through emergency exit chutes of the 744 which was brought to a halt on A3. Notice the charred engine 1 cowling and the wing leading edge.

VH-OEJ (cn 32914/1331) Being 16,000 kilometers from home is all worth it if you bump into some great people, get to explore an awesome country and simply have a good time. After some days in Sydney Virgin Blue dropped me off at a wintery Melbourne, and during the few days I spent here this one for sure was the crappiest weatherwise. Still, not much you can do apart from firing the shutter when Qantas' -OEJ lines up and rotates right in front of you... A hundred percent Wunala Dreaming! In case Qantas people read this, bring back Nalanji....pleehaase ;-)

Air Cargo Germany
Boeing 747-409(BDSF)
Hong Kong - International (Chek Lap Kok) (HKG / VHHH)
China - Hong Kong, June 16, 2010
Remark
Photographer
D-ACGB (cn 24312/954) This is the 2nd B744(BCF) for this still rather new German cargo airline which was founded in June 2008. CGB is a former China Airlines passenger plane (B-18275) that was converted to a freighter by Israel Aerospace Industries in Tel Aviv. It received its colour scheme at Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport before she was delivered to Air Cargo Germany on 24 July 2009 at Frankfurt's Hahn Airport, the company's homebase. Just very recently the airline received its 4th B744(BCF).
