So SAA did it 3 times bigger and better by flying in formation using 2 x B747-300's and 1 x A340-600. Very ironic as well as the leading A340 is replacing the older B747's in the fleet. This Saturday SAA's classics will also fly its final revenue flight. So indeed appropiate for the classics to take part in this great display. Well done SAA !!!!!!!!!!! |

The roll maneuver starts with the orbiter beginning a combined roll, pitch and yaw maneuver that positions the head down, with wings level & aligned with the launch pad. She flies upside down in ascent phase. HL7733 (cn 34206/520) Finally!! After a year and a half of waiting for this aircraft to arrive in the winter rotation under optimal conditions my goal has been achieved. Pictured here grazing 25L during a brief cloud break just beyond the thousand foot marker in considerably stormy and extremely windy conditions as KAL5 completing direct service from Seoul. The windsock under the fuselage in indicative of the incredible crosswind during the arrival but she managed quite nicely I must say. This endeavor has been particularly challenging as KE only uses the 772 three days weekly during the winter months and jumbos most of the year now. As well as one of the last, this is my favorite photo taken this year. Hopefully you enjoy it as much as I do.1600 Pixels Wide! |

N588NW / 5808 (cn 32988/1024) I have observed many crosswind arrivals in LAS, some a bit hairy but none quite like this one. Flight 1850 flailing wildly on approach from MSP had to abandon the effort after several steep side to side swings and and a strong upward surge. The second approach was not much better but at least successful. It is not too often I become concerned for my own personal safety while spotting! Funny just after this the DE heavy turned out the approach and was seen circling east over the valley to take the 19's instead. |
