CS-TKN (cn 624) This month of November had been really good for us spotters, with so many different things coming by!! Not being a different A/C, this one deserved some attention... These pilots were caught in some wind shear, and it was really close to total disaster, since the wing almost touched the ground! You can also see the stress in main landing gear... At that time, there were gusts up to 44 knots of crosswind, and heavy turbulence was reported! I'm glad that everything ended up well.. [Canon 40D + Sigma 120-400 |

N509UA (cn 24763/284) With LH 744 D-ABVE. The two planes appear to be touching! The 757 is on final for 28L while the 747 is for 28R. The runways are 750 ft apart, so there is still plenty of room between them. Incidentally, Lufthansa 455 is seen here returning to SFO due to an oil leak and eventual shutdown of the number 2 engine. Note rudder is deflected to the right compensating for the failed engine on the left side. |

N524VA (cn 3204) Qantas 747-400 (VH-OEI) is seen going around, climbing past us in the A319. We were performing a parallel ("side-by") approach to Runway 28 in San Francisco (SFO) when apparently the heavy couldn't stay behind us and had to go around. It was the most spectacular thing I have ever seen from inside an airplane! |

N703TW (cn 27620/736) On July 15 ship 6802 suffered a bird strike during its take-off roll at AMS. The 757-200 performed a rejected take-off and in the process applied max brakes. The brakes heated up causing the tires to heat up as well. By design, a plug in one of the tires melted allowing the tire to deflate and break up instead of exploding. |

9M-MRI (cn 28416/155) About 10 seconds after liftoff from runway 19R something happens with the left engine. Alot of smoke and fragments of metal and other material falls down on the runway. At first the pilots don't get any indications in the cockpit and plan to go on to Kuala Lumpur. Then we decide to call Arlanda duty officer to make sure that they have noticed the pieces from the engine on the runway. Shortly after that the pilots requests fueldump and return to ARN safely. N692DL (cn 29724/820) It really does appear that 757's have a rougher time in these 40+ mph crosswinds. This was one of the last landings before the increasing wind as well as heavy blowing dust and debris resulted in almost exclusive usage of the 19's by every carrier with the exception of a number of WN 73G's that continued brave the formidable 25's. The departure line was nearly 40 planes deep and they were being released slowly. |

N408MC (cn 29261/1192) (Photo 1 of 2). Take-off at 36L 9:21PM. Heavy smoke (rubber scraping) due to an off-center nose gear while at full thrust. This resulted in an aborted take-off. Emergency services rushed out immediately and the runway was closed. After inspection and reset the 2300 meters of runway left was enough to take off again and the aircraft was cleared by the tower. |
