VT229 / 60 Mk IV Meteors are particularly rare; this one served with 66 Sqn and then 203 Advanced Flying School, RAF Driffield (the first RAF jet flying school), in whose original markings it is seen here at Duxford on a lorry which belongs to a Newark firm. It was subsequently restored, thankfully in these original colours, and displayed at the Newark Air Museum from 1983 to 1991, when it was exported to Kermit Weeks’ Fantasy of Flight museum in Florida, registered N229VT. (The Javelin behind is XH892.) |

ZS-NFH (cn 210-62970) This Cessna landed on a public road just off the Bloemfontein airport due to mechanical failure! It was hastily repared and the engin replaced, and by the afternoon it took off back to the airport! Nobody was injured although the pilot was shaken! |
