N494TW / 8609 (cn 2601) This is what a R3350 engine looks like when a cylinder lets loose and is ejected through the cowling. This occurred during a touch and go with the No.2 engine powered back to simulate an engine out. When No.1 let loose, we had two engines out on one side. |

CF-JCS (cn 250) In late spring, this aircraft taxied out onto the (somewhat) frozen lake and fell through the thin ice. Note the floatation devices on the wing and tail. It took a Chinook helicopter from Edmonton to lift it out. Scan from original photo. |

162602 / NL-102 (cn 524) While on approach to the USS Kitty Hawk at night, this aircraft struck the "round-down" area of the flight deck and broke in two. The pilot and RIO ejected from the front portion of the aircraft as it skidded down the flight deck. This section caught the 3 wire (I was in the No.3 engine room below deck!) Although the crew landed in the fire, they were rescued with only minor injuries. See related photo here. |

CS-TKN (cn 624) This month of November had been really good for us spotters, with so many different things coming by!! Not being a different A/C, this one deserved some attention... These pilots were caught in some wind shear, and it was really close to total disaster, since the wing almost touched the ground! You can also see the stress in main landing gear... At that time, there were gusts up to 44 knots of crosswind, and heavy turbulence was reported! I'm glad that everything ended up well.. [Canon 40D + Sigma 120-400 |
