F-14A Tomcats of VF-1 and VF-2, A-6E Intruders of VA-145 and VMA(AW)-121, E-2C Hawkeyes of VAW-116, EA-6B Prowlers of VAQ-131, SH-3H Sea Kings of HS-14, S-3A Vikings of VS-38, and a C-2A and rare US-3A of VRC-50 were aboard. USS Ranger was decommissioned on 10 July 1993 and is now berthed at Bremerton, Washington, and a group is campaigning to have her converted to a museum. |

ZS-HJA (cn 1619) Hoisting salvage equipment from the 164m long bulk carrier Phoenix, the Phoenix broke moorings in bad weather a few days earlier and ran aground just north of Ballito on the KZN north coast, the tanker was bound for a scrapyard in India. It is hoped to have her refloated on August 30th, spring tides. |

Identifiable are 11 F-8 Crusaders, 9 McDonnell F-3 Demons, 7 Douglas A-1 Skyraiders, 4 Douglas A-4 Skyhawks, 2 A-3 Skywarriors and 2 Grumman E-1 Tracers. Obtained from the USN over 40 years ago. |
