McDonnell Douglas MD-11

Switzerland, June 18, 2004
Remark
Photographer
JA8582 (cn 48573/559) Just made it through the Friday afternoon traffic in time to get this shot. Doesn't it just look massive?! Well, that's why I always go to the airport whenever there is a lot of wind and they come in from the east over the town of Kloten. Just compare the size of the MD11 to the house! Taken with a wide angle.

United Parcel Service - UPS
McDonnell Douglas MD-11(F)
Anchorage - Ted Stevens International (ANC / PANC)
USA - Alaska, November 24, 2006
Remark
Photographer
N2**UP It is always delighted to see some snow on the undercarriage is blown off by the air stream. This UPS MD-11F is now leaving Anchorage from runway 32 with some interesting selection of cargo airplanes behinds. As this photograph was taken the moment after the sun broke through the peak of mountains, the orange hue gives us a warm atmosphere. In a reality, it is -9F (-22.8C) which makes me pretty cold; but, as you might know, I like crispy winter day so that I really enjoy what I am doing here!!

Remark
Photographer
N988AR (cn 48434/476) There is no telling how many months-hopefully-years, Centurion will operate the MD-11s. The airline will eventually use 747s and more MDs it bought from EVA. For now, we can just continue to enjoy those powerful takeoffs...

Swissair
McDonnell Douglas MD-11
Zurich (- Kloten) (ZRH / LSZH)
Switzerland, April 8, 2000
Remark
Photographer
HB-IWO (cn 48540/611) Takeoff shot from the viewing deck at Zurich. I arrived in Zurich that morning from Singapore and landed in heavy fog. I feared that my plans of a day's photography in (any) good light were in danger. But at around 0930, the sun broke through and mixed in with the condensation to give me a photograph that I will treasure for years to come!

Northwest Airlines
McDonnell Douglas DC-9-32
Detroit - Metropolitan Wayne County (DTW / KDTW)
USA - Michigan, December 4, 2005
Remark
Photographer
N605NW (cn 47223/300) At DTW, Northwest DC9's often pushback with reverse thrust ("powerback"). This is what happens when the airport crew leaves some of the ice and snow on the ramp. Very showy, but perfectly safe - for planes with tail-mounted engines.
