63-7993 (cn 18610) This is how we do it....During the 2010 TigerMeet we had this awesome photo join-up 7000 feet over Germany. We are used to having vintage aircraft, warbirds and jets posing behind the Skyvan photoship, but seeing a real tanker was an absolute highlight of the year! Despite the size of the aircraft, it was a very easy and stable photoflight, much to the delight of all photographers onboard of course; normally they would take air-to-air photos from a tanker, but seeing one behind you is really véry cool ;) |

9N-AJH (cn 8198) Welcome to Lukla, Tenzing-Hillary Airport, Nepal situated at 9,100 feet above sea level. This is also the World's Most Dangerous Airport. Accident happened frequently with a downhill sloping runway (12% gradient) make things very interesting. Aircraft use runway 06 only for landings and runway 24 for takeoffs. Due to the terrain, there is no prospect of a successful go-around on short final. One word: Spectacular! [Nikon D300] |

JA812J (cn 23067/588) With its four PW JT9Ds roaring in perfect harmony, our B747-300 effortlessly lifts off from Honolulu International Airport, as it makes the turn toward Tokyo-Narita as JO73. This photo was taken about two weeks prior to the retirement of Japan Airlines' B747 classic fleet, and JA812J also had the honor of performing the last flight (which was also JO73, HNL-NRT). Glad I was able to get on those JAL classics once again, for my final time. After February 2011, all of JAL’s B747-400s will also be retired. Sad times indeed. Seen below is the crystal clear ocean, the city of Honolulu, and Diamond Head; yet another great day in Hawaii Nei! |

OV-103 (cn OV-103) "Discovery" starts accelerating and her roll to get into the orbital insertion angle for the very last time. At this moment she has 142,917,535 miles on the odometer and will accrue approx. 5 million more. If you look closely, the red uniform of Commander Steve Lindsey in the front cockpit's side window. As designed two covers of the front reaction control system nozzles are falling of with one about to be burned in the lower part of the picture and other is at the mid deck level. So long Discovery! |

44-14977 / B6-Y (cn 109-28610) I'm uploading this historic image on behalf of Jeff Lee and Dan Manthos. It's from the collection of Kodachrome slides that was formed by their father, Major Atlee G. Manthos of the 78th and 357th Fighter Groups, and is submitted in his memory. The photo was taken shortly after the end of the war in Europe, note the buzz letters under the wing. 363rd FS, 357th FG. Named 'The Count' with the caricature of a pilot (probably Carroll Ofsthun of the 363rd Fighter Squadron, the regular pilot of this Mustang) and at least 75 mission marks. |

PH-XRY (cn 33463/1292) FEB 25th was just one of THESE picture-perfect days that are so very rare around here. We received a ton of fresh, powdery snow during the night and the cloud cover was torn open the following morning, allowing Transavia 6833 from Rotterdam to land instead of diverting to Munich. Here the flight is seen on the apron by its own, framed by the jaw-dropping, snow-covered mountain range in the background. I have never encountered the same conditions anymore in the past two years. |

Flying in the mountains gave me a ton of photo oppertunities. This is possibly the coolest, located at the top of a mountain near Asheville the airport elevation is 4,400 feet and the tallest part of the mountain was 6,000 feet. You need permission to land there but it looks like there is a nice resort and golf course next to it. Notice the vibrant colours of the leaves as they start to turn. |
