4X-ATA (cn 18070/205) The forward section of this 707 is tucked away in a dimly lit cubby of the Cradle of Aviation Museum. This 707 was the first jet operated by El Al and set a then-longest flight record from Tel Aviv to Idlewild (now JFK). To the left is a set of stairs you can use to stand eye-to-eye with the cockpit which is unfortuantely covered with lexan, preventing good photographs of the inside. Sony Alpha a700, Tamron 17-50. |

CC-CCG (cn 18462/333) Initially delivered to Lufthansa in 1963 as D-ABOS (later re-registered D-ABOV), this Boeing 707 was acquired by LAN Chile in 1974, being the third one to joint the fleet. She was withdrawn from active service in 1986 and four years later transferred to the National Air & Space Museum. Now, after two decades she is being restored. I hope in my next stopover at the Museum I can visit her cabin and cockpit. |
