Northwest Airlines
McDonnell Douglas DC-9-32
Detroit - Metropolitan Wayne County (DTW / KDTW)
USA - Michigan, December 4, 2005
Remark
Photographer
N605NW (cn 47223/300) At DTW, Northwest DC9's often pushback with reverse thrust ("powerback"). This is what happens when the airport crew leaves some of the ice and snow on the ramp. Very showy, but perfectly safe - for planes with tail-mounted engines.

Untitled
Leduc 010
Paris - Le Bourget (LBG / LFPB)
France, December 28, 2005
Remark
Photographer
01 (cn 01) The amazing creation of Rene Leduc, who sucessfully demonstrated his obsession with the ramjet engine concept. The Leduc 010 was released at altitude from a four-engined Sud SE-161 Languedoc transport aircraft (a section of which is retained here). After release the pilot would fire up the ramjet and the aircraft flew. This aircraft flew a test program until retirement in 1953. The pilots were VERY brave.
