N6020C / 820 (cn 2658) This particular aircraft, flew TWA's very last Constellation flight on April 6th, 1967. It began with TWA in January 1951, and flew as "Star of Kentucky". It was fitted with weather radar and later wore TWA's "interlocking globe" logo until it was withdrawn from service then stored in Tucson and broken up in 1969.

Remark
Photographer
N71**C Arriving from Kansas City. These were the last days of the Connie - as 707's and 880's replaced them on long routes, they were placed on short domestic hops. The introduction of the DC-9 marked the end of this once proud airliner.

Remark
Photographer
N8084H / 327 (cn 1039) The last TWA 1649A was the only model present which was something higher than a L-749A. N8084H was also the last Constellation to be delivered to TWA, it served passengers from March of 59 to March of 61 then flew freight until it was withdrawn from use.

Trans World Airlines - TWA
Lockheed L-...49 Constellation
Kansas City - International (MCI / KMCI)
USA - Missouri, May 1968
Remark
Photographer
N***** The scrapping procedure was first to strip the plane of anything non-metallic, hang concrete balasts from the nose, remove not more than one or two engines, chop off the tail and remove the remaining engines. A crane with a concrete gillotine chopped up the planes and the wreckage was lifted by another crane into an enormous smelter.

Remark
Photographer
N6008C / 808 (cn 2644) "Star of Indiana", retired at MCI after serving destinations such as Columbo, Basra, Cairo, Athens, Tunis, and Bengasi. The rudders creaked in the wind, and the birds played around the aircraft.

Remark
Photographer
N***** In May of '68, just a few days before being fed to a smelter, a group of tails sit forlornly, at MCI, awaiting their undignified fate. TWA's last Constellation flight was in April, '67, just more than one year earlier.

Lockheed L-1649A(F) Starliner
Newark - Liberty International (EWR / KEWR)
USA - New Jersey, June 1967
Remark
Photographer
N7315C / 315 (cn 1017) Delivered in 1957 and converted to freighter in 1960, this aircraft was in it's final days of service with TWA. It was parked too close to the terminal full a full shot, and the other side was an active taxiway, so it's a two part shot.
