N905NA (cn 20107/86) Sadly, this will never be seen again. The Space Shuttle Endeavour sits atop NASA's Shuttle Carrier Aircraft as she is brought out of the air for the last time. This final flight left Edwards Air Force Base and did a fly over salute to the many communities that contributed to the program over the years. |

OV-103 (cn OV-103) "Discovery" departs High Bay #1 for the last time (39th flight) on the mobile launch platform that she will fly off on STS-133. She has been mated to rest of the stack (ET + 2 SRBs) over the last week. With assembly/checkout done, the crawler-transporter entered, picked up the MLP + "the stack" and carried them to launch pad 39A. Thousands of adoring KSC workers were outside to cheer her on for the 3.5 mile trip at 0.8MPH. So Long Discovery! |

N905NA / 376 (cn 20107/86) Before the millions of people got to see Discovery's final ride, the day started here on this corner of the ramp at KSC. It is 0500H and the crew is in the last stages of the preflight. The last bags are taken from the flight crew vehicle. She is already powered up. Across the ramp, the pathfinder DC-9 and the photo chase T-38 are being preflighted. As you can see this was probably the only part of the day that the crew were left to themselves (except for my camera). The calm before the storm! |

At this moment she has 142,917,535 miles on the odometer and will accrue approx. 5 million more. If you look closely, the red uniform of Commander Steve Lindsey in the front cockpit's side window. As designed two covers of the front reaction control system nozzles are falling of with one about to be burned in the lower part of the picture and other is at the mid deck level. So long Discovery! |
