The broken clouds reflecting on the upper surface of our wing and the rays of sunlight hitting the ground in the distance have me wide awake, even after a trans-atlantic crossing from New York's John F. That's Siberia ! We fly westbound to Europe, 68 degrees north latitude, 1 p.m. local time. One of few southbound flights in the area, originating from the polar region, crosses our route perpendicularly, 20 miles ahead of us, 1.000 meters below. They are getting a very fast early afternoon sunrise. We enjoyed during several hours the wonderful colours of sunset, before the sun rose again over Finland. Simply magic ! |

N588NW / 5808 (cn 32988/1024) I have observed many crosswind arrivals in LAS, some a bit hairy but none quite like this one. Flight 1850 flailing wildly on approach from MSP had to abandon the effort after several steep side to side swings and and a strong upward surge. The second approach was not much better but at least successful. It is not too often I become concerned for my own personal safety while spotting! Funny just after this the DE heavy turned out the approach and was seen circling east over the valley to take the 19's instead. |

D-AIG* Somewhere near Berlin, a Luftie A340 is seen here coming down south, crossing our path. Seen from PH-BQC cruising at 40000 ft in our last hour of SIN-AMS. Sun had only just risen and was touching the horizon still, making the multiple layers of thin clouds turn various shades of orange. A beautiful sight to see. |
