BOAC
Handley Page HP-81 Hermes 4
Duxford (EGSU)
UK - England, April 5, 2006
Remark
Photographer
G-ALDG (cn 08) Captured immediately after her restoration including a complete repaint - the world's only surviving Hermes looks gorgeous in her pristine BOAC livery. The Hermes was the first purpose-built pressurised airliner built in Britain after the end of World War Two. Built in 1950 and nicknamed 'Horsa' this Hermes operated from London to West and South Africa from 1950 to 1953. The restoration is superb, with every panel and rivet now pristine. Soon to be moved inside AirSpace, so get your photos quick!

Remark
Photographer
G-APAS (cn 06022) The pioneering jet airliner. Sometimes it does not pay to be a pioneer. The Americans learned valuable lessons from the tragic disasters, the French borrowed the nose design for their Caravelle and the British industry never really recovered.

Bristol 175 Britannia 312F
Cosford (EGWC)
UK - England, December 30, 2004
Remark
Photographer
G-AOVF (cn 13237) Built in 1957 at Bristol's plant in Bristol(!) and delivered new to BOAC for their transatlantic passenger services. In 1964 she was converted to cargo spec after returning from a lease to British Eagle Airlines. Spent many years with various cargo operators until eventually put into storage at Manston. Merchant Air flew it to Southend in Feb-1983 for overhaul, which never happened. Finally she flew from Essex to here on May 31, 1984 and now preserved in her delivery scheme.

Remark
Photographer
G-ASZF (cn 18924/448) Fortunately, as a photographer starting out, I did not make the mistake of ignoring 'common' BOAC airliners shortly before the coming of British Airways. SZF survived the transfer but was written off at Accra in 1983 after being sold to a Nigerian operator.

N888WA (cn 06424) The tail of the comet is sticking out of the Museum of Flight restoration hangar, and the 727 prototype tail is in behind. I think that is a section of a 747 nose under the tail.
