N***UA When I first started dating my wife back in 1980, we use to make trips down to LAX to watch the airliners and photograph them. I have several candid ones like this from back then that I need to scan. I'm planning on doing it soon. Here we see my wife of 26 years standing on the corner of Sepulveda and Lincoln Blvd. as a United 76 passes directly over her. Not more than 10 seconds later she (the 76) touched down on 24R. Either she went to the south side, or the weather was bad, once they substituted a 747 for the 388, but it was always something. However, today it all came together, and quite nicely I must say. B-2468 (cn 28755/1128) Ah summer! Shorts, clear skies, a cool gentle breeze off the ocean, and everyone having a GOOD time. It was a late Sunday afternoon and I was glad to be down at LAX. The temperature was at least 30 degrees warmer at my home in San Dimas, some 40 miles north east of the airport. So you can see why the In-N-Out and park to the south is so inviting. VH-OQA (cn 014) It was a beautiful winters day here in So. Cal. and QF 11 was running about an hour or so late. Luck for me as the sun just came out not more than 10 minutes earlier. Here we see her crossing the intersection of Sepulveda and Lincoln about 200ft (60M) above. Just after taking this shot I went up to the In N Out (left of blk SUV) and had a tasty Double Double burger and fries. What a great way to celebrate this shot! Local time 11:05 PST. |

In this WA view of the north side of LAX we can see the typical early afternoon operations. On the lower right side is terminal 1 dominated by Southwest . The next one to the left is terminal 2, the original international terminal. A KLM 74 Combi can be seen unloading cargo and preparing for its return flight. And just past terminal 3 is the north side of TBIT. A Cathay 773 can be seen just outside the alleyway after arrival. Also, the entire length of 24L is visible. |

VH-OQC (cn 022) It was a beautiful spring morning and QF 93 was running about 25 minutes late. This could have posed a problem as the localizer for 24R was scheduled out of service for maintenance at 8A. However, ATC said no problem, and that they would leave the glide slope up for them until they landed. Here we see ship QC crossing Lincoln Blvd. about 10 second from TD on 24R. Interestingly enough, 24R is the shortest runway at LAX at 8925ft. (2729M) Local time was 7:59A for TD. |
