As the lake is completely frozen during winter, the owner put his lovely airplane onto the lakeside which gave me this unique perspective. N5136R (cn 172RG0040) Owned by Colorado Contrails Aviation. Short final for Kimball's runway 10 on the 4th of July. This is a nice little airport in the middle of nowhere, western Nebraska. The ramp area is the small group of buildings on the far left side of the photo, and to the left of the far end of the runway, you can see the new parallel taxiway under construction. An interesting bit of trivia about Kimball is that it was the landing site of Alvin Parker's world record setting sailplane flight from Odessa, TX on July 31, 1964. His flight covered 647 miles! |

While the First Officer brings up the electrical schematic on his inboard display (notice how he uses the touchpad below the FMC), the Captain handles the radios and reviews the paperwork for jetBlue 1015 back down to JFK. Also notice the lack of any displays on the mode control panel (autopilot) - all information is actually shown on the PFD. Oh, and the paper-clipped piece of paper on the bottom of the frame...that's my log sheet. Never leave home without it! |
