This MD-11 literally fell the last 10-20 feet and slammed down onto the left hand main gear..... wish I'd had a video camera going too! 156 white (cn 2960905556) Tailstrike!! One of the stars of this years RIAT, at the end of Sunday's display the pilot put the aircraft down hard and it bounced in the air before touching down again. It was only when looking at my shots later on I realised that the jetpipes had touched the runway, creating a shower of sparks. It can only have happened for a split second, as nobody nearby seemed to notice it either! |

G-BYAW (cn 27234/663) After departing from runway 06L this aircraft ingested a large bird into the starboard engine and then called a Mayday. After a shallow climb out with the engine spitting flame it routed over Liverpool bay where the starboard engine was shut down. The aircraft then came back to MAN seen here touching down on runway 06R. The aircraft landed and cleared the runway safely. It then held on the taxiway where the airport fire service gave the aircraft a full inspection. |
