Remark
Photographer
NC39165 / PH-AJU/44 (cn 1404) Work in progress. Stepping away from my ex F100 moveable stairs and wires to stretch my back a little. The engines have completed their first run of the year with success and the avionics conversion is almost done. EXIF 20D, 24-105/4, 1/4s, F5.6 ISO400 handheld.

USA - Navy
Lockheed P-3C Orion
Tucson - Davis-Monthan AFB (Municipal) (DMA / KDMA)
USA - Arizona, August 15, 2006
Remark
Photographer
1***** This Orion called in an emergency over Tucson and was vectored into Davis-Monthan ... It appears there was a lightning strike. Most of the nose cone was ripped apart and luckily did not hit the props. Aircraft landed safely. Not a whole lot of information is known about the mission these "blank" Orions carry out. They are supposedly run by the CIA for missions most likely classified as "unknown." Not even the "NAVY" titles or bureau number is labeled on these Orions ... Crazy.

USA - Alaska, March 1, 2006
Remark
Photographer
D-ALCC (cn 48783/627) The unique design of the MD-11 reversers produces impressive vortexes which are not often as visible as in this photo.

Vaso Airlines
Ilyushin Il-86
Phuket (HKT / VTSP)
Thailand, January 10, 2006
Remark
Photographer
RA-86140 (cn 51483211102) No more runway left = Must rotate! Look at where the 1000 ft marker sign and where the plane is! One heart-stopping takeoff! The front gear of the plane actually got up before the '1' marker but the body remains heavy. I think the pilots know exactly where to rotate. The Ilyushin also kicked up a large sandstorm on the beach and it was barely above it after finally airborne. IL86 is such a beast! [Nikon D2x, High speed crop mode]

Swiss International Air Lines
McDonnell Douglas MD-11
Zurich (- Kloten) (ZRH / LSZH)
Switzerland, June 27, 2004
Remark
Photographer
HB-IWA (cn 48443/458) The classic ZRH-shot. Climbing out of rwy 16 on its way to Chicago. The MD-11 is definitely history now in ZRH: even Thai now only sends A340-600! And that's the end of that!...Sigh...
