Untitled (Aerolineas Carreras)
Curtiss C-46F Commando (CW-20B-4)
Off-Airport - Laguna Brava
Argentina, December 12, 2006
Remark
Photographer
LV-HIJ (cn 22346) On April 30th 1964, this Curtiss Commando was cruising at 18000 feet from Copiapo (Chile) to Cordoba (Argentina), carrying 8 race horses from Lima (Peru) and 6 people (4 crew members). A sudden malfunction in an engine forced the crew to try an emergency landing on the half dried lake "Laguna Brava", at 4271 meters. All were rescued 2 days later, except the horses, and the plane which is in good condition but scrapped due to the difficulty and risk of repairing it there. Help with the editing from Gary W

Qantas
Boeing 747-4H6
Sydney - Kingsford Smith International (Mascot) (SYD / YSSY)
Australia - New South Wales, January 15, 2007
Remark
Photographer
VH-OED (cn 25126/858) Qantas arrives into Sydney rolling out long on the active with a horde of emergency vehicles chasing her down the runway. Sources indicate: 45 minutes out of Sydney a loud cracking and banging sound was audible from the roof area of aircraft with dust being emitted. The area in question was the sliver strip notable on the fuselage of the aircraft. A fear of structural failure was noted and the aircraft was turned around with emergency procedures being initiated for its landing back in Sydney.

Malaysia Airlines
Boeing 777-2H6/ER
Stockholm - Arlanda (ARN / ESSA)
Sweden, November 3, 2006
Remark
Photographer
9M-MRI (cn 28416/155) About 10 seconds after liftoff from runway 19R something happens with the left engine. Alot of smoke and fragments of metal and other material falls down on the runway. At first the pilots don't get any indications in the cockpit and plan to go on to Kuala Lumpur. Then we decide to call Arlanda duty officer to make sure that they have noticed the pieces from the engine on the runway. Shortly after that the pilots requests fueldump and return to ARN safely. USA - Florida, August 24, 1992
Remark
Photographer
N8859E / 410 (cn 20621/904) The sign message is almost appropriate for this scenario. Ex-Eastern and Pan Am. This photo was taken several hours after Hurricane Andrew devastated the southern part of Dade County. High winds at MIA blew this bird into the canal and it never flew again. It was scrapped in 1996 at MIA.
