Photo Boeing 747SP-27 Yemenia - Yemen Airways Los Angeles - International (LAX / KLAX) USA - California February 20, 2012 Contact Tim Bowrey - Sydney Spotters Tim Bowrey - Sydney Spotters 7O-YMN 'Yemenia 7000' seen gliding over the 405 Freeway on finals for RWY25L after a long haul direct from Paris Charles de Gaulle. As you can probably appreciate, this moment was quite an experience, one which I can never top or duplicate by fluke as it happened. Funnily enough, this is the first time I have ever seen a 747SP fly! This photo is dedicated to my good friend Jorge for his friendly hospitality during my stay and Steven for the heads up!
Photo Boeing 747-168B Saudi Arabian Airlines Mumbai (Bombay) - Chhatrapati Shivaji International (Sahar / Santa Cruz) (BOM / VABB) India July 18, 2007 Contact Nitin Sarin - AirTeamImages Nitin Sarin - AirTeamImages HZ-AIE You know what? To most people this is a great and spectacularly lucky catch, but at BOm its quite regular! I must say its good to see the good old 741's still flying around in the skies. There is something about this livery too which is just so eye catching. The lucky catches for the day was this and a PK 743 in the new livery.Notice the no 2 engine sucking up water from the taxiway. There are only 10 pics of this baby in the DB, heres to the eleventh
Photo Boeing 757-2G7 US Airways In Flight International Airspace December 11, 2009 Contact Je89 W. Je89 W. N908AW Cabin shot of a former America West B752, refurbished with US Airways' seats; it seems like the bulkhead designs still have the old America West colors though. Passengers anxiously await the arrival into beautiful Hawaii, but there are a few more hours to go as we’re over the middle of the Pacific. This was personally my longest B752 ride, clocking in at a little over 7 hours as we battled strong headwinds throughout the entire journey. Cruising from PHX-HNL on US20.
Photo Airbus A330-343 Swiss International Air Lines Tel Aviv (-Jaffa) - Ben Gurion (Lod) (TLV / LLBG) Israel April 2012 Contact Yochai Mossi - AirTeamImages Yochai Mossi - AirTeamImages HB-JHK As luck would have it, weather was rather clear only 10 minutes before it pushed back, then a layer of dense fog rolled in and covered the entire airport lowering the visibility to less then 200m. I was keen on capturing the new Swiss colours (or rather lack of it!) for the first time at night, and even though the weather was far from great I'm still quite pleased with the results...SWR257 departing for Zurich, local time 5:10am.
Photo Boeing 747-123(SCA) NASA Titusville - NASA Shuttle Landing Facility (TTS) USA - Florida April 17, 2012 Contact Suresh A. Atapattu Suresh A. Atapattu N905NA Before the millions of people got to see Discovery's final ride, the day started here on this corner of the ramp at KSC. It is 0500H and the crew is in the last stages of the preflight. The last bags are taken from the flight crew vehicle. She is already powered up. Across the ramp, the pathfinder DC-9 and the photo chase T-38 are being preflighted. As you can see this was probably the only part of the day that the crew were left to themselves (except for my camera). The calm before the storm!

Certainly stands out in between the masses of all white with cheatline business jets! Big kudos to Gama for having the guts to apply this scheme to their Challenger! Looks so classy and yet so surreal. This jet plays in a league with Wunala, Hibiscus and Illinois One! ;-)
Photo EHI EH-101 Merlin HC3 (Mk411) UK - Air Force Kemble (EGBP) UK - England June 19, 2011 Contact Michael Brazier-Aviation-Images Michael Brazier-Aviation-Images ZJ120 I was amazed that joint Helicopter Command could spare a Merlin for the Cotswold Air Show – the helicopter transport force is at full stretch with crews making frequent rotations between the UK and Afghanistan. Helicopter operations take crews closest of any to the front line and they have demonstrated resilience under fire and acts of heroism second to none in the course of their duties over the last ten years. This Merlin bears the markings of 28 and 78 Sqns, both based at RAF Benson.

Photo Lockheed (Aeritalia) F-104S ASA Starfighter Breitling Starfighters Grenchen (LSZG) Switzerland January 20, 2006 Contact TZ Aviation TZ Aviation This former Italian Air Force Starfighter has had an eventful time since becoming gate-guard at this little Swiss airfield. Initially painted as FG-875 in US Air Force colours, causing unrest among the local residents who were offended by the military connotations of the aircraft. Eventually in December 2003 she was torn from her base on this roundabout by strong winds. Breitling rebuilt the airframe, strengthened the supports and gave her a new non-controversial paint scheme.

The Hokule'a still makes long distance trips relying solely on the old celestial navigational techniques, like how the Polynesians navigated through the Pacific Ocean thousands of years ago.

Frankfurt Airspace closed 8AM CEST, so no more landings or take-offs. You see several Lufthansa planes parked at hard stands. Almost none at the gates at the Terminals, just a few here and there. If standing on the runway you could hear birds whispering and no APU's at all. What an amazing day. On the most left is the new so called "cruise ship", the new Hotel complex onto of the Rail Center.

Photo BAC TSR-2 UK - Air Force Duxford (EGSU) UK - England December 19, 2004 Contact TZ Aviation TZ Aviation XR222 The TSR.2 was troubled from the start - numerous mechanical problems plagued the flight test program. However, such issues pale into insignificance compared with the politics. Even before it was abandoned in 1965, some 10,000 BAC employees staged a protest march in London calling for the program to be continued. When finally cancelled, all machining tools were cut up, all technical publications were destroyed, even the wooden mockup was burned in front of the employees. A sad story.

FP-216 is positioned almost directly under PBY-5, Buno 08317, which hangs in the museum's West Wing. This arrangement allows visitors to view both simultaneously: the cut-away hull of FP-216 at eye level, with all of its equipment and work stations in full view, and a nearly identical Catalina "soaring" directly overhead. Including a full crew of figures in proper attire like the "cook" here! Often quoted as cn 117, but this is a line number.

Photo Unknown Untitled Off-Airport - San Francisco USA - California April 25, 2005 Contact Mick Bajcar Mick Bajcar N***** The last thing I expected on entering 'Lori's' a 1960s style diner, Powell Street, Union Square, San Francisco, was something of aviation interest. The aircraft is suspended from the ceiling in upstairs of the restaurant and the fuselage carries the designation US Army P5 D-25-NA and the serial together with a crew weight of 200lbs. The markings are fictitious though I was assured that the aircraft was real. It is probably some sort of homebuilt. The food was great too !

Photo Lockheed Martin P-791 Lockheed Palmdale - Production Flight Test Installation AF Plant 42 (PMD / KPMD) USA - California November 20, 2006 Contact Gerhard Plomitzer Gerhard Plomitzer N791LM I was at the Blackbird Air Park when suddenly this black project hybrid airship took off. It has been secretly built by Skunkworks as a heavy-load carrier. To gain more span to act like a wing, the P-791 is three pressurized lobes joined together. It uses four air cushions as landing gear, located on the outer lobes. It appears to have four propellers-two at the tail and two on the sides. A hybrid airship derives most of its lift by lighter-than-air gas, the rest by its shape and span.

Photo Douglas DC-8-54(F) LAC - Lignes Aeriennes Congolaises Goma (GOM / FZNA) Congo (Kinshasa) November 14, 2006 Contact Guido Potters Guido Potters 9Q-CLV Stuck at the ramp of GOM for almost five years, when this pic was taken. Lava overran the only taxiway, so the DC-8 couldn't leave anymore. In the beginning, they let the engines run daily, but at some point in time, this one became wfu. In the foreground the new taxiway to the ramp, but that one is too late for Lima Victor. As a sort of New Year's resolution Goma's ramp was cleaned early January 2011 and this DC-8 together with other defunct aircraft were dragged to a spot designated as cemetery.

This is possibly the coolest, located at the top of a mountain near Asheville the airport elevation is 4,400 feet and the tallest part of the mountain was 6,000 feet. You need permission to land there but it looks like there is a nice resort and golf course next to it. Notice the vibrant colours of the leaves as they start to turn.

One of the stars of this years RIAT, at the end of Sunday's display the pilot put the aircraft down hard and it bounced in the air before touching down again. It was only when looking at my shots later on I realised that the jetpipes had touched the runway, creating a shower of sparks. It can only have happened for a split second, as nobody nearby seemed to notice it either!
