ZS-SJS (cn 32632/1205) On a flight from Johannesburg to Cape Town, this leading edge slat would not retract. All the attempts by the pilots to recycle the flaps did not work, so we had to fly to Cape Town at a slower speed and lower altitude. According to the co-pilot who has contacted me, this has never before happened on a 737-800 and Boeing is investigating the incident. |

Quite a unique situation. The tower told us that rwy 19 had some bad weather but that rwy 01 was quite okay. We thought that if rwy 01 was okay, the other side will also be good. We came from the south and first made a localizer approach on 19. During the missed approach we saw what the controller ment! Impossible to get in on rwy 19 and an easy visual on rwy 01. The tower is completely obscured on the right side of the picture. |

Ground staffs are watching carefully to see the clearance between the wingtip and objects around. Since all Ted flights depart/arrive at the Concourse A where I had arrived from Ontario, CA, I had enough time to watch the whole procedure before I catch my connection flight. As we did not have a chance to see the beautiful sunset on that day, I was still happy to capture this scene. |
