D-AHIA (cn 29082/229) The most spectacular I have experienced in Europe so far! Very late 90 degree right turn ending right at the threshold of the runway. Dangerous downwinds from the hills make it even more difficult. |

Welcome to one of the most spectacular airfields in the world! The approach takes you right through the fjord from the coast, with towering cliffs on both sides. If the wind is strong enough and you get lucky, you actually fly past the field, through the pass in the cliffs visible in the background, and then make a sharp turn back, landing in the opposite direction. |

N9815M (cn U20604572) On final approach to runway 19. Look closely and you can see what kind of wild approach is required for this notorious 1800ft airstrip. The approach to 19 is flown over the main road in town and then the landing is accomplished while in the turn! And as you can see, the approach to runway 1 needs a sharp left bank to miss the mountain on the other end. All in all, good fun! |
