As the sun was suddenly jumping into the frame, it gave me an interesting yellowish hue. The thermometer in the vehicle showed that it was -9F (-22.8C) which made me pretty cold; but, as you might know, I like winter so that I was really excited what I am doing here! The horizontal stabilizer and tail section were shadowed onto the puff of clouds created by break dusts. Pretty cool effect I would say. |

80-0024 / WA (cn 668/C173) Can you feel the heat from these two Pratt & Whitney F100-PW-220 turbofan engines s it departs Nellis with its burners lit. 80-0024 use to belong to the 33rd Fighter Wing aka "Nomads" of Eglin AFB before finding a new home with the friendly pilots of the 65th Aggressor Squadron from Nellis AFB, Nv. Here is a red air Eagle leaving Nellis for a Red Flag mission to create alittle chaos for the blue force. My 2000th pic on Airliners.net. |

N70529 (cn 49921/1752) Ship 529 waits for the ramp to reopen after the lightening subsides. This was a spectacular storm and I only went out to shoot pictures after about 30 minutes of nearly continuous lightening. Really a treat to watch, but not very conducive to a smooth operation. If anyone wonders why the ramp closes when lightening is in the area this should be explanation enough. This strike was just outside the perimeter fence but this storm produced hundreds of strikes within the fence, according to the detector equip. |
