OV-103 (cn OV-103) If you were an astronaut and were going to climb aboard the shuttle, the round hatch is the entry way. So this is how you enter the $2.4 billion dollar (list price) machine. The White blankets (seen here) coating the aircraft are made of coated Nomex felt reusable surface insulation. They are used on the upper payload bay doors, portions of the midfuselage and aft fuselage sides, portions of the upper wing surface and a portion of the OMS/RCS pods for heat exclusion.
