United Express (Shuttle America)
Embraer ERJ-170-100SE 170SE
Chicago - O'Hare International (ORD / KORD)
USA - Illinois, November 21, 2006
Remark
Photographer
N651RW (cn 17000072) Seen here after operating Shuttle America 7625 from IND. Thanks to a 45 minute hold over Kokomo, Indiana, I had all of 10 minutes - instead of 55 - to get from Concourse C to B for my connection to LGA. Actually, it was more like 10 minutes to take this cockpit shot, schmooze with the crew, make a wrong turn and almost miss my connection to LGA, but that's neither here nor there...

Remark
Photographer
C-GHMA (cn 27-530) I kept waiting for a beam of sunshine to light up this nice old 1963 Apache, but it stayed cloudy over this small airport that's 310 nm North of Toronto. The air was so quiet here & there was nobody else around.

Exuma - Norman's Cay (NMC / MYEN)
Bahamas, October 31, 2006
Remark
Photographer
An old drug runners paradise, Norman's cay. Pablo Escobar used this island as a half way point to smuggle cocaine into the United States, around the island you can find planes ditched into the ocean and the pine trees. Now Norman's Cay has been cleaned up and is a great spot to go and lie on the beach. The runway is still wet from an earlier rain shower and in terrible condition with many potholes and cracks in it. A Bahamian version of my Cedar Key overview.

Little Whale Cay (MYZ3)
Bahamas, October 30, 2006
Remark
Photographer
RWY 7/25 - 2,200'x50' - But it's only that long due to the slight bend towards the Eastern end, as the island was too short. This is what the Bahamas & Caribbean Pilot's Guide adds: "Luxurious private estate. Permission required prior to landing". I'm glad they've included the phone number!

Beech A55 Baron (95-A55)
Haliburton - Stanhope (CND4)
Canada - Ontario, July 3, 2006
Remark
Photographer
C-GRWD (cn TC-481) I was glad to find this 1963 Baron at this small airport that's surrounded by a dense forest & lakes before the setting sun went down. I think it's neat how the old style of landing light fits into the nose cone. You can barely see two "Spy vs Spy" cartoon characters painted below the cockpit windscreen.

Remark

N6751C (cn TH-1131) This one snuck up on me. I didn't hear it coming until the plane was about 50 feet behind me, and the teleconverter was a fair hinderance for this one. St. Barthelemy (- Gustavia) (SBH / TFFJ)
St. Barthelemy, October 19, 2005
Remark
Photographer
This shot gives you a good idea of a pilot's eye view whilst dive bombing in to a very short Rwy 10 for landing. The famous 'hill' which you can just about see in the bottom of the photo is what makes this approach such an exciting and insane experience for both passengers and photographers when visiting this beautiful island by air.

Song (Delta Air Lines)
Boeing 757-232
New York - John F. Kennedy International (Idlewild) (JFK / KJFK)
USA - New York, April 30, 2006
Remark
Photographer
N6705Y (cn 30397/917) Just over three years after the first flight, Song's last ever scheduled departure gets pushed into the alleyway for startup as DAL1990 to TPA. There's a great product inside these green planes, and plenty of fantastic people to back it up, so I can only look forward to what mainline Delta has in store for the future. This one's for Phil G., Rob, and all the others at T2/3 who "did it their way"! 1200 pixels wide.

N9815M (cn U20604572) On final approach to runway 19. Look closely and you can see what kind of wild approach is required for this notorious 1800ft airstrip. The approach to 19 is flown over the main road in town and then the landing is accomplished while in the turn! And as you can see, the approach to runway 1 needs a sharp left bank to miss the mountain on the other end. All in all, good fun!

N787BA (cn 40690/1) Emerging from its "hide-out" in the paint-shop, the gleaming B787-8 in Boeing's attractive house livery made its way to the very same factory door it left just some days earlier to rendezvous with the world's media, VIPs and the Boeing employees who worked on it.

N787BA (cn 40690/1) Here, it stopped short of its final "destination" and held for about 30 minutes. Being the star for the day, nobody is going to begrudge it for the wait before its true beauty is unveiled. Those elegant raked wingtips will remain a talking point for a long time yet.

N787BA (cn 40690/1) As the huge factory doors (the size of a football field) slid open, 15000 people plus millions around the world gaped at the Dreamliner's sleek nose, elegantly-cut cockpit windows, exquisite paintwork and magical aura. The cheering of Boeing's employees within was a most heartfelt endorsement of the collective effort that went into making this day such a dream come true. The Boeing team that choreographed this entire day's proceeding outdid themselves!!!

N77751 (cn 3523) Photo taken by my dad, Frank Search. Moments later, I went for my first plane ride and have loved airplanes ever since! I was 5 years old! Years later, another owner modified the airplane for inverted flight. On 02/14/76, it crashed in Homestead, FL when a wing sheared off while doing aerobatics. The pilot bailed out and was not injured, but reportedly lost his life a few years later in another modified Swift.

N905NA (cn 20107/86) Beauty and the beast. Discovery sit above the 747 after arriving at KSC. In all fairness, a voyage spanning 5.8 million miles and 219 complete orbits since blastoff July 26 from pad 39B at the Kennedy Space Center can be a little bit harsh on ones looks and the smooth skin of the 747 is quite a contrast!

Note the Reaction Control System, which is made up of thrusters fired to help the Orbiter achieve a precise orbital path or perform changes in its position. The streaks around the RCS openings are from re-entry.

OV-103 (cn OV-103) If you were an astronaut and were going to climb aboard the shuttle, the round hatch is the entry way. So this is how you enter the $2.4 billion dollar (list price) machine. The White blankets (seen here) coating the aircraft are made of coated Nomex felt reusable surface insulation. They are used on the upper payload bay doors, portions of the midfuselage and aft fuselage sides, portions of the upper wing surface and a portion of the OMS/RCS pods for heat exclusion. **-**** Taken by my Great Uncle during World War Two. This was taken from a gunners position on top of the aircraft. This photo was taken after a flack attack from German ground troops. I have come to find out that there are not many photos left of this squadron and that not many were taken. Sadly my Great Uncle has passed away and his wife and his brother gave me permission to share this photo with A. net.

OV-103 (cn OV-103) At dusk, a strange looking convoy leaves the KSC Shuttle Landing strip and heads towards the heart of KSC at a crawl. A tractor tow vehicle pulls Discovery along a two mile tow-way from the SLF to the Orbiter Processing Facility (OPF), a structure similar in design to a sophisticated aircraft hangar, where processing Discovery for another flight begins. Note the texture of the orbiter's surface in the unusual green lighting of the convoy. A few hours ago, she was on fire and plunging to Earth.

OV-103 (cn OV-103) For the first time in my time span of photographing and being around the space shuttle fleet, I tick the Airliners.net upload box "preserved" for 'Discovery". Today is the milestone as she is finally done and ready for delivery to the Smithsonian. All that is left is for the ferry flight to Dulles. She is no longer capable of ever returning to operational status with multiple vital systems permanently disabled.

OV-104 (cn OV-104) The two most flown orbiters meet for the final time. "Atlantis" is lined up to enter OPF#01 to finish her transition and retirement. "Discovery" is done and has just vacated OPF#01 and will soon depart KSC for the last time. The two orbiters paused nose-to-nose for one final good bye. Here Discovery heads to the VAB for storage till her ferry flight. This is the closest the two orbiters have ever been to each other.
