OV-103 (cn OV-103) "Discovery" rockets up and turns in the dawn sky as she carries out the trajectory shaping required to catch up with the International Space Station (which passed over Discovery as she sat at the planned T-9 minute countdown hold). The launch itself was from the bottom right of the picture. The winds have sheared the smoke trail and pushed it to the left. At the very top of the picture the bend in the trajectory to keep her aimed for low Earth orbit can be seen. 70 second exposure;Canon 1DS MK II;F/8;24mm. |

Well, sun is not always shining in the Caribbean! It´s 7:15 in the morning. WM401 is traditionally the first flight out of SXM and an absolutely recommendable one: If you have ever witnessed those Twin Otter engine test runs on the ground, you know why! We circled once around the whole island waiting for better weather. Just impressive! |

TF-UTA / 523 (cn 17265561) Taken close to the current eruption in southern Iceland, where molten lava has been coming up for a week. This is taken from CAP-10, TF-UFO through the plastic with a 28-70mm lens, as the closeness of the canopy does not allow a bigger lens. The lava fortunately came up between two glaciers, otherwise a major flood of melting glacier might have caused casualties and property damage. The eruption is at an altitude of 1100 meters and the temperature at the time of the photo was -15 degrees Centigrade. This has been a very big tourist attraction and many people have walked for over 5 hours from the south to the site and then back for another 5 hours. It took us 20 minutes from the airfield at Mosfellsbær. |
