G-AWNH (cn 20270/169) A rare image of an early model BOAC Boeing 747-136 berthed at Sydney's International Terminal in 1973. The mighty Boeing 747 was starting to displace BOAC VC-10s and Boeing 707s on services to Australia. A Pan Am Boeing 707-121 and an Air New Zealand DC-8 are visible at right. (Qantas mobile stairs are in use on the B747 and B707). |

G-AWNH (cn 20270/169) The Big Changeover, in the warm Autumn afternoon light, G-AWNH still in original BOAC Speedbird colours, behind G-AWNN the first 747 deliverd from Boeing in British Airways colours and across the tarmac another jumbo with the interim scheme , BlueFin/Speedbird but British Airways on the nose. BOAC book by Charles Woodley invaluable for BOAC, BA info. |

G-AWNH (cn 20270/169) Close-up of the tail of this 747 reveals the neat little FAA logo and there's no prizes for guessing the former operator... |

G-AWNH (cn 20270/169) Here is quite a "find" in the New Mexico desert - an ex BA 747 now being used by the FAA for non-destructive testing. Established in 1991 as the FAA Aging Aircraft NDI Validation Center (FAA - AANC), the center was renamed in 1995 the Airworthiness Assurance NDI Validation Center. The 747 spent her entire career with BOAC, then BA, before being retired here on 14-Jun-1999. |

G-AWNH (cn 20270/169) Still in its regal BOAC livery, a 747-100 roars on 10R whilst a Trident, still in BEA livery, is on finals for 10L. |

G-AWNH (cn 20270/169) Just seconds from touchdown and the completion of yet another Transatlantic voyage, G-AWNH, also known as "Sir Walter Raleigh", prominently displays the abbreviated "British" title used during the 80's. One of BA's earliest 747's, it was originally delivered to BOAC in November, 1971. |
