XA-MEH (cn 22409/1676) The view from seat 26A...while we were dumping fuel over Lake Michigan. A mechanical failure rerouted our PHL-MEX flight to ORD.

La Paz - El Alto (John F. Kennedy) (LPB / SLLP)
Bolivia, January 21, 2006

CP-2447 (cn 22409/1676) A/c taxies to the gate with its outboard right main landing gear tire blown. I didn’t note it until I later met the captain, who kindly informed me of this incident. The intact tire had also to be replaced, since it was subjected to overstress. According to him, LPB is a real tricky place to land because of the thin air (4,000 m.a.s.l.). Even the 3-engined B727 needs sometimes almost full throttle during final approach. Other jets, like B737-200, aren’t, due to the same reason, safe enough to operate here.
