Douglas SBD-4S Dauntless
Chino (CNO)
USA - California, July 14, 2007
Remark
Photographer
N4864J (cn 2478) The most famous US Navy bomber of WWII, the SBD sank more tons of Japanese shipping than all other aircraft combined. This particular Dauntless was delivered 21. September 1942 as Bu10518. After serving at the battles of Tarawa, Kwajalein, Marshall and Marianas Islands, she was prematurely stricken on 30. March 1944. After the war she was used by the MGM Studios as a wind machine. She was ultimately acquired and restored by Yanks Air Museum in 1984.
