USA - Air Force
Convair B-58A Hustler
Dayton - Wright-Patterson AFB (Wright AFB) (DWF) (closed)
USA - Ohio, April 16, 2014
Remark
Photographer
59-2458 (cn 61) "National Museum of the US Air Force" The Hustler was the USAF's first operational supersonic bomber. Its high speed should allow it to fly high and fast and avoid enemy SAMs and fighters. However more advanced ground defenses and fighters, developed by the Russians at the time, negated the B-58's performance advantages. It only had a short military career lasting merely 10 years after which it was replaced by the F-111. [Nikon D800 / AF-S Nikkor 16-35mm]

Remark
Photographer
59-2458 (cn 61) "National Museum of the US Air Force" The Hustler was the USAF's first operational supersonic bomber. On this picture you may well see the weapons/fuel pod under the aircraft's belly and the crew members' escape pod which allowed them to eject safely at very high altitudes and speeds.
