N16-118 / (9)07 (cn WA793) First Flight 03/01/75. One of original 10 ordered. Test flown as G-17-7. Del 02/03/75. First Sea King to undergo LOTE. Large crack found in fuselage 97 - major repairs undertaken. Painted in toned down markings Feb 2002. On 13 April 2003 suffered single engine failure on low level recce sortie over Iraq's Al Faw Peninsula. Crew nursed aircraft 18nm to Royal Navy base at Az Zubayr & an emergency landing was made. Had 2 engines and a main rotor gearbox changed as a result. 817 Sqn, callsign "Shark 07" |
