N494TW / 8609 (cn 2601) The most graceful airliner ever. This example visited Flying Legends 1998 but did not land. It has since been grounded and preserved in Korea but two of the engines were given to the Aviodrome to assist in returning their aircraft, N749NL to the skies. Inexplicably, though that aircraft could now fly it has been grounded due to a management decision. Scanned from 35 mm negative film. |

48-0609 / 8609 (cn 2601) Military Air Transport Service VC-121A of 1254 ATG on final approach to RAF Burtonwood, Lancashire, in 1955. The aircraft wears the contracted serial 8609 and later became C-GXKO and N494TW and is now preserved in South Korea. |

N494TW / 8609 (cn 2601) Sunset shot of the beautiful Constellation silhouette showing its classic triple tail design. Delivered to the Air Force in 1948 and retired to Davis-Monthan AFB in 1968. In 1970 it was sold and converted into a sprayer, fighting insects as N9464 and later as C-GXKO with Conifair. In 1984 it was sold to actor John Travolta as N494TW, who sold it to Vern Raburn's Constellation Group in 1987. Restoration started in 1991, and as of 1992 it appeared on many US airshows in beautiful MATS markings. In 1998 it did a European airshow tour. It was sold to Pratt & Whitney in 2005, who then donated it to Korean Air. It is now on static display in Air Korea colours on Cheju Island, Korea. Regrettably, it will never fly again. |
