DD931 / L This DD931 is only one preserved Beaufort in Europe. This aircraft is assebmled and restored from at least five Australian built Beaufort Mk.VIII wrecks recovered in 1974 from Tadji airdrome, New Guinea, from parts of other aircrafts and new-build components. After abortive restoration at Chino it was sent to Hawkins, Texas and in 1991 to RAF Museum Hendon. Presently is displayed as torpedo bomber Mk.IIA DD931 from No 42 Squadron, which prepared in June 1942 to move to the Far East, but DD931 ended during transfer at Malta Island. Later served with No 5 (Middle East) Training Squadron and then No 39 Squadron, attacked Rommel´s Libyan supply lines by torpedoes and mines. |

VP959 / L (cn 04088) The Royal Aircraft Establishment (later DERA and QinetiQ) ran a communications flight ('Sunshine Airways’) for some years comprising a small number of Devons, which ran a daily shuttle between the RAE sites at Farnborough, Bedford, West Freugh, Llanbedr and Aberporth. In the 1980s they were painted in the red, white & blue 'Raspberry Ripple’ scheme common to their research and trials aircraft, as seen on this example receiving a Major Service in the RAF Task hangar (M1) at RAF Kemble in late 1987. |
