LF363 / YB-W (cn 41H/469290) LF363 is probably the last delivered Hurricane to the RAF service, assigned on 28 January 1944 to 5 MU. Later served with No. 63, 309 (Polish) and 26 Squadrons. Unlike many Hurricanes, LF363 was not scrapped but served on various station flights and flown in many movies, including “Battle of Britain” in 1968. Since 1957 is a member of todays the Battle od Britain Memorial Flight. In 1991 crash-landed, between 1994 and 1998 was repaired and after seven years it flew again. Currently wears the colours of Hurricane Mk.I, serial P3878, code YB-W, piloted by F/O Harold Bird-Wilson of No. 17 Squadron during the Battle of Britain. Original Hurricane YB-W ended in flames over the channel on 24th September 1940 when he became the 40th victory of Luftwaffe ace Adolf Galland, but “Birdy” survived. |
