ZE682 / YS (cn 34029-K-261) Flying from a once very active Royal Naval Air Station, the Viking T1 gliders of 662 VGS are now the only aircraft which can regularly be seen in the skies above RM Condor. Now home to 45 Commando, Royal Marines, much of the infrastructure of the Royal Navy’s air engineer school still remains. The squadron’s headquarters are situated in the old control tower, which now houses their briefing rooms, offices and classrooms. |

154854 / YS (cn 2461) This CH-46E is from the HMM-162 "Golden Eagles" based out of MCAS New River in Jacksonville, NC. Back in the mid-70's my father served in this squadron and did two Med Cruise tours with the unit. It was a joy (and a bit of luck) to be able to catch the old Yankee Sierra bird in Memphis. HMM-162 officially stood down on December 9, 2005, and is in the process of transitioning to the MV-22 Osprey. |

KN645 / YS (cn 16587/33335) Very significant as the last Dakota to fly in Royal Air Force service on 04-Apr-1970. Built new as USAAF 44-77003 before delivery to the RAF as KN645 in May-1945. Painted as KG374 - the Dakota was famously flown through barrages of Anti-Aircraft attacks to deliver supplies to the beleaguered Allied troops at Arnhem in Holland. Flt Lt David Lord flew his unarmed and flaming Dakota until every last supplies chute was dropped, despite the starboard wing being on fire. Sadly Lord died but saved many lives. |
