A79-830 (cn 4115) Weather-worn RAAF Vampire A79-830 languishes at RAAF Fairbairn in 1983. 'Open air storage' has exposed the ply-wood in the fuselage and she lacks the cockpit canopy. This Vampire had seen better days. A79-830 was Delivered in April 1955, and after retirement she was Allotted to RAAF Fairbairn for 'Display'. She was not in 'Display Condition'. Can anyone please advise what became of this aircraft? (RAAF Vampire aircraft were usually painted Silver, with DayGlo on the nose, wingtips and fins.) Low res photo |

VH-XUS (cn 18-2388) Rare 1993 low res Window View photo taken from Lockheed Lodestar C60A VH-XUS, during a 0.2 hour sight-seeing flight over (new) Parliament House, Canberra. I also photographed this aircraft while she was on static display at the Inaugural 1992 Avalon Airshow, in Victoria, Australia. The aicraft was painted in brown USAAC livery, and the Nose Art wording was 'Flew the Coop'. She was originally delivered to the USAAC as 42-55951 in 1943. I believe she went to the Wanaka Transport Museum in New Zealand around 1997. |

A7-054 / 54 (cn CA30-54) RAAF Roulettes Aerobatic Team. The Team Leader, Roulette One (A7-054), leads A7-079 and A7-090 in a group take-off from RAAF Fairbairn. (Canberra Airport hangars are visible at rear.) A7-054 was involved in a mid-air collision with A7-049 during formation aerobatics over East Sale in March 1988. The pilot of A7-049 ejected safely, and A7-054 was skillfully landed 'wheels-up' after the nose wheel bay was damaged in the collision. (A7-054 was Delivered to the RAAF in July 1969). A21-1 / 1 (cn 0228/AF001) The RAAF's First F/A-18A Hornet, A21-1, at RAAF Base Fairbairn on 12Feb1999. The aircraft was flown from Williamtown by WGCDR Mark Binskin, CO 77 Squadron. He is under the radome and his name was on the nose (Port side) of the RAAF's First F/A-18A Hornet. Deja Vu. On 08July2009, Air Marshal Binskin, CAF, attended the rollout of the RAAF's First F/A-18F Super Hornet (Rhino) at the Boeing facility in St Louis Missouri. That aircraft, A44-201 bore the name 'AIRMSHL Mark Binskin' near the cockpit. Low res photo. |
