9A-DSI (cn 860126) A double first for me - the first shot of this good-looking Vivat in the database, as well as the first ever shot of this newly-opened gliding field :). Tucked away in the Croatian hills at 2000 ft above sea level, this 500-meter strip was purpose built (on the site of a former field) to take advantage of the area's excellent gliding conditions - with almost all Croatian gliding records having been set here. |

71212 / 212 Sad, damaged and forgotten - with only two Thunderjets to keep it company - this Dak waits out its days at the abandoned Zeljava airbase. One of former Yugoslavia's most important military installations, Zeljava was once the largest airbase in these parts, with five runways and a 3.5 kilometer long complex of underground tunnels capable of handling up to 100 MiG-21s. It was abandoned in 1992 during the Balkan Wars, when the retreating Yugoslav National Army "disabled" it with over 56 tons of explosives. |

9A-BDG (cn 1252) Whiskey Oscar Whiskey... what a stunning aircraft (as far as piston singles go) the SR-22 is. An Avidyne Entegra glass cockpit system, full leather, oxygen, TKS deicing... who wouldn't want one? |

9A-BDG (cn 1252) Warming up the fantastic Avidyne Entegra FlightMax glass cockpit system... playing with it for almost half an hour almost left me speechless :). There's even a Mode S transponder down there... |

9A-GSO Looking for the Meteor? It's in the briefing room, next to the radiator :). One of only two Meteors built, 9A-GSO was - at the time this photo was taken - the only example flying, though it had been stored here to avoid damage in the field's crowded hangar. |

9A-DOG (cn 301) Back in the hangar after a four-hour - and very thorough - wash. Clean, shiny and quite surreal in the hangar's odd sodium lamp. Looks more like a museum in here. |

D-EFSC (cn 2109) The highlight of the 2009 Lucko Airshow. My first ever Do-27 looking very regal in B&W. Manufactured in 1961, but looking very much like it came off the line in 2001, this specific aircraft was powered by a BMW licence-built version of the geared Lycoming GO-480 275 HP flat six. |
