Ryan L-17A
Dayton - Wright-Patterson AFB (Wright AFB) (DWF) (closed)
USA - Ohio, August 18, 2013
Remark
Photographer
48-0928 / LD-928 (cn NAV-4-1634) The American military used the L-17 from the late 1940s to the 1960s as liason, reconnaisance, light cargo and FAC aircraft. This aircraft carries the scheme used by a L-17B of the AF ROTC program at Bradley University, Preoria, IL in early 1959. She is now on display at the National Museum of the USAF and, note, definately carries the stencilled serial 48-928A under the cockpit canopy.

Untitled
Caproni Ca.20
Seattle - Boeing Field / King County International (BFI / KBFI)
USA - Washington, August 2, 2013
Remark
Photographer
In truth I only went up to the Museum of Flight's Personal Courage Wing as there were so many people about that everywhere else was crowded out. Usually early aviation is low on my priority list but now I'm really happy to have spent time there. This Ca.20 is recognised as the world's first fighter and was stored by the Caproni family in a monastery for 85 years before being dismantled and transported to Seattle. A real piece of aviation history, amongst many, at the fantastic Museum of Flight!

North Korea - Air Force
Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-15bis
Dayton - Wright-Patterson AFB (Wright AFB) (DWF) (closed)
USA - Ohio, August 18, 2013
Remark
Photographer
2057 (cn 2015357) This is quite possibly the most valuable MiG-15 ever produced, certainly from an US perspective. After trying unsuccessfully to obtain a 'Fagot' for technical and evaluation puposes this example landed at Kimpo AB, South Korea by defecting pilot No Kum-Sok. Subsequently test flown and evaluated an offer to North Korea to hand back the plane to it's 'righful owners' was rebuffed and so instead it went on display at the National Museum of the USAF at Dayton.

USA - Ohio, August 18, 2013

0138 The MiG-19 was the first Soviet production fighter capable of supersonic speed in level flight. The S-version was equipped with a long range 'Svod' navigation receiver, 30 mm canon and hardpoints uder the wings for bombs or rockets. This example was obtained from the 457th Technical Evaluation Squadron bases at Nellis AFB, NV and went on display at the National Museum of the USAF in Oct. 94.

Vietnam - Air Force
Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-21PF
Dayton - Wright-Patterson AFB (Wright AFB) (DWF) (closed)
USA - Ohio, August 18, 2013
Remark
Photographer
4128 (cn 760408) This Fisbed-D version includes the addition of a radar in the engine inlet cone to enable it to become an all-weather and night intercepter. However, in order to maintain the streamlined appearance the guns had to be removed and so this version relied solely on rockets for armament. This example served previously with the Hungarian AF before being acquired in 1998 by the National Museum of the USAF where it us now on display.

Istanbul - Ataturk (Yesilkoy) (IST / LTBA)
Turkey, May 29, 2014
Remark
Photographer
51-1901 / 1901 The Thunderflash was the first jet to be developed specifically to fill a reconaissance role. The RF-84 had its air-intake ducts relocated to the wing roots and the nose elongated and enclosed to permit installation of camera and electronic equipment. This example is now on display at the super Turkish AF museum on the Southern boundary of IST.
