Trans World Airlines - TWA
Boeing 707-331
London - Heathrow (LHR / EGLL)
UK - England, June 1970
Remark
Photographer
N765TW (cn 17679/88) Old Ektachrome slide improved as far as possible - a 'wet' take-off from Rwy 28L (water injection into turbojets to improve trust causing lots of great smoke!) - some classic old jets visible in the heat haze in the background

KLM - Royal Dutch Airlines
Boeing 747-206B
Shannon (SNN / EINN)
Ireland, June 1972
Remark
Photographer
PH-BUF (cn 20400/157) Condensation streaming from the trailing edge of the wing while circuit training at SNN on a very misty evening - this aircraft was unfortunately lost with great loss of life in a dreadful runway collision with a Pan Am 747 in Tenerife in 1977

Shannon (SNN / EINN)
Ireland, October 1977
Remark
Photographer
EI-BBY (cn 13455) Lying in a field to one side of Rwy 24 after an amazing crash landing on 30.09.77, when it hit the ground short of the threshold, turning through 180 degrees to end up in this field about 300 metres to one side of the runway - Although it cought fire, thankfully all the occupants escaped without fatality and the fire was quickly controlled by the airport fire service

Eastern Air Lines
Douglas DC-8-61
Shannon (SNN / EINN)
Ireland, 1968
Remark
Photographer
N8776 (cn 45888/290) New to Airliners.net. Although basically a US domestic airline, Eastern DC-8-61s were regular visitors to SNN in the late 60s on military charters to Germany. Their range, however, meant that refuelling was essential on both east and westbound Transatlantic trips. The colour scheme was considered fairly radical for its day!

Aer Lingus - Irish International Airlines
Boeing 720-048
Shannon (SNN / EINN)
Ireland, September 1968
Remark
Photographer
EI-ALC (cn 18043/188) Ready to taxi for another transatlantic flight with a full passenger payload plus 6 airport crows on the tail - presumably looking for an easier way to migrate to a warmer climate for the winter (!) - with those JT3-C turbojets screaming, however, those birds must have lost their sense of hearing!

Untitled
Cessna 150E
Shannon (SNN / EINN)
Ireland, September 1973
Remark
Photographer
EI-AOO (cn 61225) Flying east over the River Shannon to the south of the airport - the curved lagoon towards the right was originally intended as a flying boat base but never used as such - the airport was very quiet that evening
