UR-82060 (cn 19530503763) From this angle the huge wingspan can really be appreciated. At 88.4m (290ft) it surpasses even the A380. It is normal at EMA for aircraft of this size to taxi on the runway and then exit onto the final section of the taxiway for runway 27 departures; this gives good opportunities for head-on shots as seen here. |

Construction of Reay airfield began in 1941. Wartime use was as a dummy & diversionary airfield. More recently was used by on-site Dounreay Nuclear Plant for air movements associated with the site. The government ordered closure in 1994 and the runway is now used as a (hugely oversized) carpark for the Dounreay plant. |

VT-AIR (cn 26917/8) Having missed this aircraft in new colours when it visited the previous day on the westbound flight through Birmingham, I was pleased to capture it in sunshine as it returned eastbound from Toronto en-route to Amritsar and Delhi. The white patch above the emergency exit reveals that the fusilage main colour is not actually white. |
