149761 / TF-15 (cn 63) HSL-33 Detachment 10 "Seasnakes". On USS Knox (FF-1052), at Fremantle, as part of USS Carl Vinson carrier battle group, returning to the USA after a Westpac cruise. Built as a UH2K-1, redesignated UH-2A in 1962. Served in Vietnam from 1964 with HC-7, painted in camouflage for combat rescue of downed aircrews, and badly shot up by enemy gunfire on three occasions in 1967 - one of which killed a crew member. Later converted to UH-2C then SH-2F, as seen here. To AMARC 20 Aug 1992 as 8H0014.

VH-BKS (cn 83118) RAAF Association Aviation Heritage Museum. Built in 1940 by De Havilland, Hatfield, UK for the RAF as R5259, but shipped to Australia under Empire Air Training Scheme (retained RAF serial). Served with 3 Elementary Flying Training School and 9 EFTS at Cunderdin. Sold in 1947 - registered briefly as VH-BHK before becoming VH-BKS, spending most of its life as a crop sprayer. Bought by RAAF Association Museum in 1972, restored in 1987/88. Sold to Queensland Air Museum, Caloundra, in 2007.

162120 / TZ-45 (cn 700411) HSL-45 Detachment 13 "Wolfpack". On USS Vincennes (CG-49), docked at Fremantle. Vincennes accidentally shot down an Iran Air Airbus A300 on 3 July 1988. Visited with USS Elliot (DD-967), USS Knox (FF-1052), & USS Robison (DDG-12), as part of the USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70) carrier battle group, returning to the USA after a Westpac cruise. USS Carl Vinson anchored off Fremantle. 162120 was flying with HSL-51 as at April 2010.

NX622 One of 17 intact Lancasters worldwide. Built in May 1945 as NX622 by Austin Motors, Longbridge, Birmingham, UK. Flew only 7 hours with the RAF, then stored. To Aeronavale in 1952 as WU-16, based in Noumea. To RAAF Association 1.12.62, initially on static display at Perth Airport. Moved to RAAF Association Aviation Heritage Museum, Bull Creek in August 1979. Seen here under extensive restoration. Now believed to be the most complete and original Lancaster in the world.

VH-HPH (cn 1375) "Matilda" Built from Tiger Moth parts with fictional CN 1375. First regd 8 Aug 1988 to Dr Brian C Edwards. Displayed in Forrest Place, Perth after Brian's solo flight which left RAF Binbrook, England on 2 Mar 1990 and arrived at Langley Park in Perth on 13 May 1990. The flight was to honour his late father, a bomber pilot who went missing in action over Germany in WW2, and raised $40,000 for Legacy, who cared for him and his mother for 20 years. “Matilda” is now preserved at Edwards Winery, Margaret River

VH-ROC (cn 17274225) Built 1980. Ex N50841 (ntu), N1836C. First registered in Australia on 9 Feb 1981 to Royal Aero Club of WA Inc. It was still owned by them when this photo was taken, but was used to issue weekday traffic reports on Perth radio station 96FM, and was sponsored by RAC Insurance. In 1997 it was sold, but purchased back by the Royal Aero Club of WA in 2000, and is still registered to them in 2010.

VH-JXA (cn 21061846) Built 1977, ex N732XA. First registered on 3.4.1990 to B. Jones at Moorabbin Airport, Vic, as seen here. On 8.1.1992, it ditched into the sea near Hamilton Island, Qld after the pilot misselected the fuel tanks and one tank ran dry, causing the engine to fail. Cancelled 31.1.1992. Later rebuilt 4.3.1997 as VH-TXY, cancelled 30.9.1998 but restored 6.5.1999 as VH-WBZ, which is still registered in 2010.

N4625L (cn 17254620) This aircraft was registered 17 days after this photo as VH-LKG. W/Off 18.7.1995 at Amaroo Homestead, WA - landed but pilot worried that aircraft would overrun runway. Applied power to go around but aircraft did not climb and right wing hit a tree, causing aircraft to swing around & touch down again. Right wing, engine cowl & nosewheel damaged as aircraft came to a stop, still on its landing gear but facing opposite direction to landing, 70 metres from the end of the airstrip. Cancelled 22.8.1995.

VH-KGA (cn 17271017) Built 1978, ex N1481E (ntu), N1992C. First registered in Australia on 4.12.1978 to Kalgoorlie-Boulder Aero Club, after a couple of other owners, it was acquired by R.M. Aitken, of Wembley Downs, WA as seen here. I flew this aircraft dual in June 1989 for 1.1 hours, when it was being operated by the Royal Aero Club of WA. The aircraft is still registered in 2010.

VH-ATQ (cn 35738) Built 1958, ex N6638B. First registered in Australia as VH-KRA on 14 August 1959. Reregistered as VH-EXZ in 7.1962, then VH-ATL 10.1.1963, and VH-ATQ on 1.1.1965. Cancelled 7.3.1996 as sold in New Zealand, where it was registered ZK-JGJ on 26.3.1996. w/o 27.11.99 Omaka, New Zealand - landed on wet grass runway, overran and crashed through a fence, nosewheel collapsed and props etc damaged. Cancelled from the New Zealand register 6.12.00. See my earlier photo of this aircraft in different colourscheme.

Next to it is VH-DOL Piper PA-24-250 Comanche (cn 24-1333). Built 1959, ex N6230P. First registered in Australia 23.3.1962. Transair Pty Ltd of Ashton, South Australia bought it in 1978 & still regd to them in 2010.
