Martinair Holland
Douglas DC-7C Seven Seas
Luqa - Malta International (MLA / LMML)
Malta, June 26, 1966
Remark
Photographer
PH-DSO (cn 45547/1036) There is a saying in the aviation business that if an aircraft looks right then it is right. The United States has produced its fair share of aircraft which fit that description, the Lockheed Constellation, the Boeing Stratocruiser and the DC series of airliners to name just my favorites. In this shot the four Wright R-3350-BA-4 Turbo-Cyclone engines easily lift Martins Air Charter "Seven-Seas" PH-DSO of the runway at a boiling hot Luqa in high summer.

Hawker Siddeley Buccaneer S2C
Leuchars (St. Andrews) (ADX / EGQL)
UK - Scotland, March 4, 1978
Remark
Photographer
XV344 / R-027 (cn B3-22-66) A Buccaneer parked with the airbrakes open looked, in my opinion, just plug ugly. Use a 200mm lens, wait until the light is right and it could look half decent. From 809 Naval Air Squadron.

Hawker Siddeley Nimrod MR1 (801)
North Witham
UK - England, September 12, 1977
Remark
Photographer
XV230 (cn 8005) The deserted airfield at North Witham in Lincolnshire photographed from Nimrod MR1 XV230. Built in 1944 and allocated to USAAF IX Troop Carrier Command HQ, it was abandoned in 1956 and incorporated into Twyford Wood by its owners, the Forestry Commission, its life as an airfield was short. Now the most notable things flying from here are two rare species of insect, the Dingy and Grizzled skipper butterflies. My thanks to Neil and Julia Smith of Custom Fencing Crowland, for the detailed history of this airfield.
