N18710 (cn 19224/559) TWA's last scheduled 707 flight, TW 4, MIA-JFK, was flown by N18710 (Del 03/67). I was managing a large travel agency in SF at the time, and I asked my TWA sales rep to help me learn of TWA's last 707 service. After quite some effort, apparently, she found out and showed up at my office with a first class ticket SFO-MIA-JFK-SFO. Now THAT is great service support!! |

N18710 (cn 19224/559) TWA didn't plan any festivities for their last 707 flight because it was assumed it wouldn't be of much interest. When the captain learned there were 12 - 18 airline enthusiasts on board just for the flight, he took a short delay and ordered more champagne from catering! N18710 (Del 03/67). |

N18710 / 8710 (cn 19224/559) One of the especially avid 707-lovers on board, deplaned the flight to go to a public phone and she called the New York Times, ABC, CBS and NBC news to say "Do you know what's happening today? You have two hours to get out to Kennedy Airport!!!" Thus, our arrival was met with TV cameras, lights and newspaper reporters. This shot is so similar to dozens, maybe hundreds of my own TWA departures. Del 03/67. |

N18710 (cn 19224/559) Del 03/67. The cabins of N18710 looked very warm, well-maintained and inviting. Here is a shot of the economy section before passenger boarding for TWA's last 707 flight. |

N18710 (cn 19224/559) Del 03/67. Thanks to the enthusiasm of the airliner buffs onboard, the crew and the other passengers joined in the mood of sadness and also celebration. Somone found a marker and everybody wrote messages of affection to the 707 near the forward door before departure. These messages were added to by TWA employees as the plane went onward, through JFK and MCI before flying to Davis Monthan. Months later, at Davis Monthan, I noticed most of the messages had faded under the Arizona sun. |

N18710 (cn 19224/559) The sun sets over Kennedy Airport and the wonderful era of TWA 707 service. Sure enough, we could barely deplane due to the crush of TV cameras and media to cover the arrival of N18710 (Del 03/67). The JFK TWA employees were surprised we had managed to turn this into a big event but readily joined in the enthusiasm. |

N18710 (cn 19224/559) Sometime later, in the company of friends I made on the flight, at TWA's other terminal waiting to board the TriStar to SFO, we noticed that N18710 (Del 03/67) was still at the gate in quickly fading light. We watched as the plane was silently towed away to TWA's hangar 12, and watching that, I nearly missed my onward depature. |

N18710 (cn 19224/559) Del 03/67. [AMARC CZ0104] Ex Trans World Airlines (TWA). A few months later at Davis-Monthan, this is how N18710 appeared. The aircraft that flew TWA's last 707 service looked a little less loved than on her last day in service on TWA flight 4, October 30, 1983. |

N492PA (cn 19694/678) One of Pan Am's last 707s, N492PA "Clipper Eagle Wing" (In service 02/1968-12/1979), at JFK near the PA hangar. It's looking rather neglected. Note the pylons are "bandaged" after removal of the engines. |

N492PA (cn 19694/678) Another view of Pan Am's N492PA "Clipper Eagle Wing" (In service 02/1968-12/1979), at PA's JFK hangar. After years of seeing Pan Am 707's all over the world in all their elegant glory, it felt sad to see this one looking so poorly. |
