If only Kai Tak were still in operation! This photo was taken from the ckeckerboard in the evening. Sadly Kai Tak has undergone vast changes compared with that in the past (Photo ID:482498 by Martin Oertle) - The runway has almost been demolished. Part of it is for car parking and part is for sand storage. Besides, the apron near Kowloon Bay is now used for other purposes. In addition, tall buildings like the one at the centre have been built near the airport. The earth keeps rotating after all! |

A sad aerial view of Kai Tak, 8.5 years after its closure. Many facilities used to be there are now gone - The terminal is gone, the traffic control tower is gone, the hangars are gone, part of the runway is gone... just leaving an outline of Kai Tak. The latest development proposal retains the shape of the runway. There will be cruise terminals, a giant stadium, an observation tower, as well as some residential and commercial buildings in future Kai Tak. Good bye, my old friend - Kai Tak. |

B-HKE (cn 25127/859) Being ex Singapore Airlines' 9V-SMK, B-HKE is the second B747-400 with PW engines to enter service. Its 4 powerful PW-engines are clearly illustrated in this photo. |

Extremely sad to see such changes taking place at Kai Tak - part of the former runway is now used to store the sand for reclamation, and part of it is used as a carpark as indicated on the right of this photo. On the left, some remote bays near Kowloon Bay have now become a bus depot. Tall buildings like the one at the centre have been built near Kai Tak. Luckily the control tower is still here, which is near the old residential buildings on the left. To my surprise, this is the 3400th photo of Kai Tak! |

A6-EMQ (cn 32697/396) Emirates B777-300 economy class cabin with 3-4-3 seat configuration. Despite the width of the seats, it was still a comfortable flight with reasonable seat pitch, delicious food and nice service. Photo taken at my seat 46J on night flight EK385 from Hong Kong to Bangkok before departure. (Canon EOS10D + Tokina ATX124 12-24mm f/4) |

RA-96005 (cn 74393201002) Aeroflot's first IL-96 in new livery arrived in Hong Kong during daytime for the very first time. This beauty was operating as flight SU593 from Moscow to Hong Kong. Despite the poor weather, SU's new livery on IL-96 is simply outstanding - its huge red winglets look particularly impressive, and the engines' colour matches perfectly with that on the fuselage. Seen here approaching runway 07L at local time 1105, 35 minutes prior to the scheduled time. |

B-16701 (cn 32639/524) EVA Air's brand-new Boeing B777-300ERs started serving Hong Kong in August. They are now regularly seen on morning flights BR865/866 between Taipei and Hong Kong since September 3. Besides Hong Kong, Bangkok is another Asian destination with BR's B777-300ER serving. B-16701 was seen here enroute to Taipei as flight BR866. What a lovely painted bird with its characteristic wingtips. |

B-HXK (cn 228) My second time to travel on Cathay Pacific A340-300. This photo was taken on the flight HKG-SIN as CX739. It is not usual to have an A340 serving this route. In fact, the captain told me that he had originally been scheduled to Vietnam instead of Singapore. This photo shows the comfortable rear cabin which was only half-loaded. May I thanks to the friendly crew members on this flight! My 1700th photo on Airliners.net. (Canon EOS10D + Tokina ATX124 12-24mm f/4) |

HS-AXA (cn 193C-1147) The passenger terminal of Hong Kong International Airport viewed from HS-AXA, which was operating on flight 9I325 from Hong Kong to Bangkok. How many aircrafts were there in this photo? On the right there is the construction site of the coming new passenger terminal and the expo. What an aging wing on this classic Lockheed Tristar! |
