Virginia Air National Guard ramp in Sandston, Virginia (RIC). The VA-ANG had A-7's at the time, and had some visitors from the USAF. If I remember correctly, an Air Force General was retiring from Langley AFB, and these fighter aircraft were going to do a fly over at Langley to Honor the General. On the ramp are F-111's, A-10's, F-15's, F-106's, F-4's, A-7's, and F-16's. VA-ANG photo by Robert A. Flournoy via Kenneth W. Keeton |

63-8315 (cn F092) Virginia Air National Guard F-105F's and F-105D's being prepared for an early morning departure across the pond to Lakenheath RAF Base in England from Richmond, Virginia. The VA-ANG advertised in the local paper that they were going to make a lot of noise in the middle of the night, so come on down and have coffee and donuts. I was able to be standing next to the camera when this timed exposure photo was taken. VA-ANG photo by Robert A. Flournoy. |

53-5328 (cn 580-8667) Virginia Air National Guard Lockheed T-33A on the Air Guard ramp at Richmond, Virginia. The aircraft has the Virginia Air National Guard 149th Fighter Squadron's Rebel Flag insignia. In 1992 Virginia Governor L. Douglas Wilder outlawed the use of the Confederate battle flag, a symbol that many African-American airmen reportly found ofensive. The Rebel Flag Insignia had been used on the 149th FS aircraft, from the P-47 through the F-16. VA-ANG photo from Lonnie Brandon, crew chief, via Kenneth W. Keeton |

44-35896 / 0435896 (cn 29175) This is a Virginia Air National Guard B-26C at Richmond about 1956. The 149th Bombardment Squadron (Light) never achieved full combat capability because of difficulty attracting navigators. It seems that there is an interest in this old historical stuff. I've received some nice comments and e-mails, Thanks. These old pictures sometimes take a lot of work to be accepted, but that's a good thing. Photo from Lonnie Brandon crew chief 896 via Kenneth W. N47DA / A-HV (cn 389-55616) This is the P-47D that was escorted out of RIC by a Virginia Air National Guard F-105D in 1972 after an airshow. The P-47D was one of six acquired from the Peruvian AF in 1968 by E. A. Jurist of Nyack, N.Y. The P-47 S/N was 44-90471, and in 1972 was part of the Confederate Air Force. 44-35896 (cn 29175) A truly rare historical view of Richmond, VA's Byrd Field and the Virginia Air National Guard's B-26s, about 1955. The picture shows the old WWII hangar and the short runway 33, now 34, and the clearing, upper right, where the new hangar was built. 61-0159 (cn D354) This is a second view of a Republic F-105D and a Republic P-47D in flight together that I have submitted to Airliners.net. The first view seemed to have some success so I dug up another. I think I have a color version somewhere, I'll try to find it. The Virginia Air National Guard F-105D 61-159 escorted the P-47D N47DA out of Richmond after an airshow in 1972. F-105D 61-159 is a MiG Killer and is still around at DM. Va. 45-49090 B&W 120 negative scan of the Virginia Air National Guard in Richmond in 1950. P-47D 45-49090 is in the last Air Guard markings before the 1951 call-up to active duty in the USAF. The pilot is wearing the "new jet style helmet". This is a rare historic picture of the Va.ANG. |

44-32700 A 616 b&w negative scan of the Virginia Air National Guard at Richmond in 1950. Richmond was a training base in WWII. This picture shows the old WWII hangar, P-47D's, B-26, and C-47's. I was 14 years old when I took this picture, I'm now 72, and sure glad they let me take some pictures. |
