296 (cn 6K-25) Was this intended as a low approach or was it a landing gone wrong? This 332 skvadron F-16A on exchange with the 32nd TFS (Wolfhounds) seemed to make a low approach but then set down on its center drop tank and skid down the runway! The aircraft aborted and pulled into a climb, went around and landed safely. Special thx to Ken for his efforts locating and recovering the image! [Scan from Ilford B&W print] |

The old Kai Tak Airport site viewed from Kowloon Peak. Few signs remain of the world reknown airport that once served as Hong Kong's gateway to the world except the old runway 13 that prominantly extends into the harbor. [Canon 1D MkII w/ 24-70 F2.8 L] |

HL7612 (cn 039) The 'Sky Shop' aft on the lower deck on Korean 608 from Hong Kong to Incheon, Seoul. The 'shop' is actually just a display of duty free items next to the lavatories of the aft economy class cabin. Transactions follow the timeless tradition of picking items from a catalog and buying them from smiling attendants going down the aisle with a duty free trolley. Thanks to Dana Low for his input on the edit and Darren for the lens! [Nikon D90 w/ Tokina 12-24mm f4 @ f4 1/13th 400 ISO] |

HL7612 (cn 039) Upper deck boarding for Korean 608, Korean Air's red-eye from Hong Kong to Incheon, Seoul. Korean Air has made the bold decision to dedicate the upper deck of their super jumbo to so-called 'Prestige Class,' 94 sleeper seats in three sections in a spacious 2-2-2 configuration. UP-DC101 (cn 47823/306) Operating as Delta Echo Tango 517 out of Almaty, UP-DC101's Hong Kong inaugural for DETA Air. This DC-10 formerly flew with JAL as JA8540 and Aeroflot as VP-BDE. 6 hours of heavy rains and dark skies set the tone for the return of this classic beauty. [Canon 40D w/ 70-200 F4 L] |

Fantastic view of Chek Lap Kok coming down Nei Lak Shan Trail at sunset. We had a seasonal typhoon just days before and visibility was excellent. Facilities of interest from right to left: Cathay City and the Headland Hotel, Dragonair Headquarters, the new Hong Kong Civil Aviation Department building and on the south side of the airfield the nearly completed Cathay Pacific Cargo Terminal.
