EK-32604 (cn 1604) This An-32 flew a while as 9L-LFO for 748 Air Services into Southern Sudan and was based in Lokichoggio, Kenya (until the early 2008). At the moment the picture was taken, the aircraft served South-Sudan out of Entebbe. |

AF 803 Returning back from a short training sortie. Three Mi-24s of the Ugandan Air Force disappeared in Kenya after a fuel-stop when they were heading for Somalia on August 12th, 2012. The next day this AF 803 was found on Mount Kenya where it had crash landed. All its occupants were alive, but injured. Wrecks of the two others (AF 807 and AF 808) were found on Tuesday 14th. All three Hinds that were sent on the mission to Somalia were fitted with exhaust coolers. |

AF-627 At the time the photo was taken, Ugandan aircrews were training extensively with East-European instructors. This AF-627 was one of the most active Mi-17s around. Here the helicopter returns from a short training flight over Entebbe. One Mi-17 (AF-603) accompanied three UgAF Mi-24s as a deployment in Somalia (12 Aug 2012). The four helicopters would support the African Union mission in the war-torn country. All three Mi-24s crashed between Nanyuki AFB and Garissa, possibly all due to terrain. |

AF 015 (cn 79810387614) Sometimes you are at the right time at the right place. AF015 just had landed and backtracked via the civil ramp back to the military section at the other side of the airport. This Sukhoi was the first Ugandan Flanker that made its test flight after assembly. By October 2011 AF 011 and AF 015 had received company from two others. |

AF607 (cn 0401) Nicely basking in the sun at the end of the afternoon on the military ramp of LUN, together with sistership AF608. It has been remarked before: An-24 meets Dash-8. The aircraft slowly gains terrain in Africa: the MA-60 serves in Republic of Congo and has been ordered by operators in Cameroon, Burundi and Zimbabwe. |

5X-HJI (cn 413) This ex-VT-EJI was converted to freighter in 2008, but did not serve long with Air India in that role. It was sold to the Congolese Services Air and registered in Uganda with Shiv Air, a subsidiary of Services Air. Rumours went around a second A310F would follow. |

AF 011 (cn 79810387613) It must be a common view for passengers waiting at the terminal of Entebbe Airport: Su-30s of the UgAF taxiing by. Mid-August 2011 the Air Force started training Ugandan pilots and the two Flankers that were available at the time made two or three sorties on fly-days. In October 2011 two more Sukhois were available and the last two aircraft were delivered the first half of 2012, bringing the total to six. |

AF-808 Crocodile over Lake Victoria! Hinds are used to patrol the area around the airport when the president is arriving or departing. The crews also do dry exercises to familiarize themselves with the helicopter and area. Besides Mi-24s the Ugandan Air Force operates a small number of Mi-8s and Mi-17s. The latter are frequently used to fly VIPs from Entebbe to Kololo Airstrip in Kampala. This AF-808 was among the three Hinds that crashed in Kenya on their way to Somalia as support for the African Union troops. |

I-DABA (cn 71) The presence of a UN support base in Entebbe has boosted the local economy. The location where this Caravelle and 707 (G-APFL) found their last resting-place has been developed into a little fun-fair called 'Aero Beach' with a bar and buffet. There were no signs of the former registration 9Q-CRU of the 'Aero Beach Craft', but on top of both wings the Alitalia-titles were still visible as well as regi I-DABA on top of the starboard wing. |

I-DABA (cn 71) When Barack Obama was elected president in 2008, Africa celebrated the victory of its 'son'. T-shirts popped up and wall paintings appeared everywhere. The painting on this Caravelle tail has been applied not so long before the photo was taken. The decorated hull is located in a fun-fair that hosts the hull of an ex-British airtours 707 as well. The former 9Q-CRU registration (DRCongo) was painted over, the wings however revealed its first identity in titles and registration. |

G-APFL (cn 17713/169) This ex-British airtours 707 has been flying around with the Ugandan registration 5X-CAU. When the aircraft was overpainted in the national colours its Ugandan regi completely disappeared, only the British regi is slightly visible under its port wing. Before this location was an open field, but since a few years it has changed into 'Aero Beach', inclusive of playground facilities, a bar, a buffet and a sand beach. |

AF-319 There are three or four JetRangers based at Entebbe, all painted in the same navy blue scheme. It appears they are used for training and sometimes for VIP transport as well. At the time this photo was taken a Mi-2 in similar blue colours was spotted at the military ramp as well. |

AF 011 (cn 79810387613) When the Russian press announced in April 2010 that Uganda had bought the Su-30, the country denied it. But the presence of An-124s early July was predicting something already. When the first assembled Flanker did its engine runs on July 8, half Entebbe could hear it. On Mo 11th, AF 015 made its first flight, followed by AF 011 on Tu 12th. The 45-min flight was concluded with a spectacular demo. Some Ugandans are less impressed; they wonder if the money spent could not have been allotted to other goals. |
