X**** This picture was scanned from a slide I took in the summer of 1975. Living 20 miles west of Brize Norton in the early 'seventies the 10 Sqn VC10s were a common sight, and on several occasions I saw one in the circuit with one main gear retracted (whether deliberately or inadvertently I never discovered). I managed to photograph this one from home apparently dumping fuel at fairly high altitude; it was heading south-south-east at the time between Hatherop and Fairford. |

LX-ACV (cn 24200/748) Cargolux Flight CV777 from Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson to Luxembourg Findel is seen here at 38,975’ over north Wiltshire heading 095 degrees and 547 knots (629 mph) a very high speed for a 747. I was sorry to have just missed its transit across the face of the moon. The picture was taken from my mother’s garden in Kemble. (60D; 400mm) |

ZG994 (cn 2206) This photo shows the remains of aircraft recovered by Forward Support (Fixed Wing) HQ at RAF St Athan following accidents. Islander ZG994 had crashed near Middle Wallop in 1999 and had subsequently been taken to BN Bembridge for use as an avionics trainer but then abandoned. Alongside it are U.S. Marines AV-8B ***542 (Code 38), Jet Provost XS180 (Instructional Airframe Number 8238M) and Harrier GR3 XZ993. (Thanks to friend and colleague Warrant Officer Nige Hughes for access & Mark Dashwood for info) |

01 white (cn 130) Whilst its competitor, the Hawk AJT, has extensive synthetic training capability negating the requirement for live weapons delivery, the Yak-130 has a secondary light attack capability which the Hawk lacks; this was demonstrated at RIAT and at Farnborough by the factory demonstrator which undertook its display fully loaded and with two crew members. |

**-**** This was one of a pair of C-17s that overflew my house this morning – the direct west-east route across the midlands seems to be used exclusively by USAF transport aircraft heading for Europe from the USA. On the original image the USAF lettering is clearly legible under the left wing. |

XZ103 / EF (cn S104) Part of the DCAE’s Jaguar instructional airframe fleet is seen here in the Aerosystems Training Wing workshops during a visit by the Valley Aviation Society. The wings of some of these aircraft have been exchanged for fatigued items discovered in the Royal Air Force of Oman fleet. Cockpit procedural trainers can be seen in the background – even these have military serials and are maintained in accordance with standard military aircraft operating procedures.
