G-CGSU (cn LAA 034-12983) Dave Howells has long been a regular at the Croft Farm fly-in with his Andreasson biplane, which has bow been replaced by this Cassutt racer, seen here arriving in the spring sunshine. The Casssutt was designed by TWA captain Tom Cassutt in 1951, and is still available in kit form for home building. This one was built by Mr Howells in 2010. A hundred horse power is delivered by a 3.3-litre Continental O-200. The combination of a fifteen foot wingspan and a 248mph top speed is terrifying…

Its day job is distributing glass eels from the Severn to fish farms throughout Europe, but its convertible interior enables it to also be available for cargo and passenger charter flights as well as parachute dropping.

The aircraft is a kit sourced in the USA and is powered by a Suzuki V6 engine which gives a relatively authentic sound to the aircraft. Alternative Honda V6 or Rotax-powered variants are also available.

The full fleet of 28 Hawk T.2s has now been delivered to Valley and the fifth advanced flying training course is currently in progress.

Through-life maintenance of the T.2 is undertaken under the Integrated Operational Support contract with BAE Systems, sub-contracted to Babcock. RAF Valley Station Commander Group Captain Adrian Hill has recently re-introduced the identification of squadron aircraft with respective 4 FTS instructors; this aircraft bears the name of 4FTS instructor Flt Lt Exley.

ZR283 (cn 31283) FB Heliservices’ AW139 is seen here landing on the Search & Rescue Training Unit pan after a training sortie. The aircraft is not used on DHFS or SARTU training courses and is used exclusively by FBH to provide training to Algerian Navy and Trinidad & Tobago Air Guard crews as part of government-supported helicopter export campaigns. Costs of all MOD support to the operation of the aircraft are recovered under a sales contract with FBH.
